ArcFM XI Architecture

As a purpose-built, domain-specific solution, Schneider Electric’s ArcFM XI series is a hybrid-cloud, services-based offering designed to meet the needs of our utility customers. With this approach, not only can you meet the challenges of managing the modern grid, you are also supported by IT solutions that behave as IT solutions should.

Our innovative hybrid-cloud design is particularly suited to:

  • Facilitate workflow integrations between ArcFM XI applications, siloed non-GIS systems, and the GIS that is the hallmark of the ArcFM XI System of Design.

  • Offer a uniquely intuitive, easy-to-use interface for configuring your specific needs across all ArcFM XI applications in our enhancement platform application known as Solution Center, vastly reducing the amount of costly custom code and code maintenance required to meet your specific needs.

  • Prevent the costly maintenance of legacy systems to maintain customizations.

  • Allow for streamlined product upgrades to the latest and greatest technology, and longer-term satisfaction with our tools.

  • Provide real-time monitoring and issue resolution often before events are even reported.

  • Bring industry-leading experts from Microsoft Azure to support and secure IT infrastructure, with more than $5 billion invested annually in cybersecurity alone.

  • Lower the overall cost of implementation and ownership, given that you don’t have to acquire new IT infrastructure in the adoption of the ArcFM XI series.

Schneider Electric-Managed Cloud

In the following diagram, you see that your most sensitive data remains customer-managed while metadata (instructions for administrative activities and application/workflow coordination) can be hosted or on-premises.

Map and app customer-specific configuration, and customer-specific customizations are the only data that are stored in the cloud.

These hosted, Azure-based services are only used for administrative activities and app coordination; e.g., which field crew needs to receive which design from Designer XI to ArcFM Mobile, rather than the actual design information. The design itself is customer-managed, stored on premises, behind the customer’s firewall, in ArcFM Design Storage.

The cloud-based metadata is stored in customer-specific, by-tenant Microsoft Azure storage in the geographically closest location to your company (as requested) and specific to the country where your company resides (provided that a data center is available). All information processed by ArcFM Services is treated as sensitive information. The data is encrypted at rest and transferred from ArcGIS Enterprise to Azure via HTTPS. Further, you can customize the content of the metadata in conjunction with our implementation teams to maximize functionality and data security.
