Data Preparation
An important first step in adopting ArcFM XI series and Esri’s Utility Network (UN) is preparing your existing data to make full use of the advanced capabilities ArcFM and the UN offer. This means eliminating duplicate features, resolving potential data conflicts, and validating your network topology. Starting from a clean dataset ensures a smoother transition to the UN and ArcFM XI.
Here are some steps to consider while preparing your data for migration to ArcFM and the UN:
-
Eliminate duplicate features.
-
Resolve potential data conflicts.
-
Validate your network topology.
Here are some questions to ask while you analyze your data:
-
Does your organization’s geodatabase use Global IDs for identifiers? You can determine this by looking for field GLOBALID of type Global ID in the Fields properties of your feature classes.
-
Does your organization’s geodatabase use Global ID-based relationship classes? You can determine this by checking if GLOBALID is the primary key in the General properties of your relationship classes.
-
Does your organization’s geodatabase use high precision geometry storage (rather than low precision)? You can determine this by reviewing the General properties of a dataset.
-
Does your organization’s geodatabase use ST_GEOMETRY or SDO_GEOMETRY (Oracle) or GEOMETRY (SQL) storage types? You can determine this by reviewing the General properties of a feature class.
