Standalone Applications and Integrations
Within the ArcFM XI ecosystem, various apps can operate standalone, while others require and/or benefit from integration with other ArcFM apps.
Designer XI: If the work your organization performs primarily involves designing and drafting changes to your Geometric Network, you don't necessarily need the functionality of other ArcFM apps. Designer XI’s specific purpose is to offer tools for designing, drafting, and analyzing distribution networks, plus it integrates seamlessly with a variety of Work Management Systems (WMS). To unlock the power of Utility Network implementations, Designer XI requires Editor XI and Feeder Services, allowing you to modify your features in the GIS system of record.
Editor XI: This XI app is perfect for organizations that want to prioritize the efficiency and data quality gains available with Editor XI without necessarily needing the full suite of ArcFM XI applications, especially when workflows are well-defined in other areas. The most significant benefits of Editor XI are data quality tools, simplified editing (minimal clicks and less confusion), and tracing tools.
ArcFM Mobile: This app, which is designed to provide mobile functionality for as-built editing and data capture in the field, also functions independently as a mobile as-built editing tool that can operate with or without network connectivity.
Example Integrations: Granted, Designer XI and Editor XI are inarguably beneficial standalone apps, but to truly take advantage of ArcFM products, integration with other XI series apps ensures you get the most out of your investment and Utility or Geometric Network.
The following are examples of key integrations:
Suggested integration scenario for electric/gas utilities
-
Designer XI
-
ArcFM Mobile
-
Editor XI
-
ArcFM Web
-
Feeder Services
-
GDBM
Suggested integration scenario for fiber/coax utilities
-
Editor XI
-
Fiber Manager XI
-
DHFC XI
ArcFM Web XI: As a web-based application that requires minimal installation/configuration, ArcFM Web XI integrates with all XI series apps to provide a streamlined way to view your GIS data in real-time. This app is in no way beneficial if it’s not integrated with other XI series apps.
Designer Hybrid Fiber Coax XI: If an external or 3rd-party system handles fiber components of your network, you could likely use DHFC without Fiber Manager XI (for specific fiber optic aspects) and Editor XI (for core design functionality). However, a DHFC integration with Fiber Manager XI and Editor XI, which Fiber Manager XI requires, can help you more accurately and efficiently manage the entire network.
Feeder Services XI: In conjunction with Editor XI, this app enables you to access and utilize the cached GIS data generated by Feeder Services. As mentioned above, Feeder Services and Editor XI integrate with Designer XI for Utility Network implementations. Feeder Services is not beneficial if it isn’t integrated with XI series apps.
Fiber Manager XI: As an ArcGIS Pro add-in, Fiber Manager XI extends Editor XI, and together they provide specialized tools for managing fiber optic networks, in addition to the functionalities offered by Editor XI. Fiber Manager XI can’t exist without an integration with Editor XI.
Geodatabase Manager XI: This app automates common yet critical Utility Network management processes (e.g., reconcile and post events) to ensure the most current data is available to users. GDBM uses operational maps configured for Editor XI to connect with your data and run reconcile/post processes. Given that this app relies on maps configured for Editor XI, GDBM isn’t helpful without an integration involving other XI series apps:
- GDBM helps manage the geodatabase and network changes resulting from Designer XI designs, including batch reconcile and post operations.
- Editor XI benefits from GDBM's automated version management and network reconciliation processes.
- ArcFM Web relies on the updated and managed geodatabase maintained by GDBM to provide current network information to users.
-
GDBM ensures that Mobile users in the field have access to the latest network data.
Wavepoint XI: This web-based app helps non-GIS experts navigate your fiber optic network data. Required integration with Fiber Manager XI and Editor XI provides you with powerful ways to meet the potential challenges of scale, data quality, and security. Wavepoint offers intuitive ways to display your Fiber Manager XI data geographically, thereby requiring an integration.
