Configure Extended Data Manager (EDM)

The Extended Data Manager (EDM) offers a generic editor for data that is specific to your work management system. To configure extended data for use in Process Framework and Designer, you must first create the appropriate Extended Data Definition (EDD) tables, then assign these tables to the feature classes.

NOTE: The owner of the EDD tables must be the same as the owner of the feature/object tables.

To configure extended data, you must assign the EDD tables to the feature and/or object classes for which CUs are defined. In the Minerville sample data, these tables are called EDM_DESIGN, EDM_COMPATIBLEUNIT, EDM_WORKLOCATION, and EDM_WORKREQUEST. The EDD Tables page provides specific information on these sample tables.

  1. Create the EDD tables or use the tables provided in the Minerville sample data. They may be copied from the sample geodatabase into your geodatabase. It is recommended that Extended Data Definition tables remain unversioned.
  2. If you create your own EDD tables, you will need to assign an EDM Property Type for each field. The EDM Property Type field appears on the Field Info tab in the ArcFM Properties Manager.
  3. Assign model names to the EDD tables. Each EDD table must have the EXTENDEDDATADEFINITION model name assigned.

    After your EDD tables have been created, you must assign an EDD table to each feature or object class for which you wish to display extended data.

  4. Right-click a feature class and select ArcFM Properties Manager.
  5. Select the Object Info tab.
  6. In the Feature Properties window, select the Extended Data Definition Table field. Only tables that have the EXTENDEDDATADEFINITION model name assigned will appear in this field.
  7. Choose a table from the pulldown list. The sample data is set up so that the EDD Design table is assigned to design nodes, the EDD CompatibleUnits table is assigned to CUs (it's broken out by utility type), the EDD WorkLocation table is assigned to work locations, and the EDD WorkRequest table is assigned to work request nodes.
  8. Click OK.

    Perform these steps for each feature class that should display extended data. When an EDD table is assigned to a feature class, its extended data is displayed on the Extended Data tab when you select the Design tab in the Attribute Editor.

    Non-GIS CUs: You may maintain extended data for non-GIS CUs. To assign a table, right-click the geodatabase and select ArcFM Properties Manager. Select a table in the Extended Data Definition Table field.
