UFM Step 3: Create Classes

Create the following feature and object classes in the UFM dataset. If you are using the sample data, these may already exist in a separate dataset. Feel free to add them to a new dataset or to an existing dataset. These features do not participate in a geometric network.

TIP: Any new feature classes require the basic fields and autoupdaters. These are outlined on the Basic ArcFM Configuration page.

Duct feature class: This feature class represents the point at which items in an underground distribution system enter the manhole. Ducts are open connections to the conduit system.

Users must not modify the DuctPosition value. This value is maintained by ArcFM. Set the Editable and Visible field properties on this field to No (Field Info tab on the ArcFM Properties Manager).

DuctAnnotation feature class: This annotation feature class provides general notes annotation for duct position.

When creating the DuctAnnotation class, link the annotation to the Duct feature class.

Type: ArcFM Annotation Feature

Reference Scale: 30 feet

Fields: No additional required fields.

DuctBank feature class: This feature class contains the ducts.

DuctBankAnchor feature class: Optional. This point feature class is used to store duct banks as composite favorites. It is necessary only if you wish to create composite favorites using duct banks.

DuctConnector feature class: This linear class provides the logical routing of a conductor from one duct to another through a manhole.

DuctDefinition object class: This table defines the attributes that are stored for each duct (conduit). Any number of fields may be added to this table, but the following is required for UFM. This table is created during the basic Conduit Manager configuration.

DuctNoteAnno feature class: This annotation feature class provides general notes annotation for ducts.

When creating the DuctNoteAnno class, DO NOT link the annotation to any other feature class.

Type: ArcFM Annotation Feature

Reference Scale: 25 feet

Fields: No additional required fields.

Splice feature class: OPTIONAL. This class represents a splice and is not required.

UFMWallDimensioning feature class: This polygon class is used to show annotation that displays width and height values of underground facility walls. This class is optional.

Type: ArcFM Dimension Feature (ArcFM autoupdaters will not fire on Esri Dimension Features)

Set the following options while creating the dimension feature.

Reference Scale: 1:50

Default Style: "I would like to create my own style", then click New Style button

Style Properties: Select Fit tab and select the following options: Do not adjust arrows, Do not adjust text. Unselect the following: Extend dimension line to length of text. Click OK

Accept remaining default values.

Fields: No additional required fields.

UndergroundStructure feature class: This class represents the manhole. It may already exist in your dataset, but the following fields must be added.
