ArcFM Geodatabase Extraction

The ArcFM Geodatabase Extraction Tool, while visible in the ArcFM Solution toolbar in ArcCatalog, is no longer accessible. If you previously used this tool to create backdrop databases, you should follow the updated instructions in the help topic titled Create Backdrop Geodatabase (Initial Extract Geodatabase).

You can follow Esri's steps instead of the ArcFM Geodatabase Extraction Tool to take the polygons that you’d used for spatial extraction to create a graphic that matches it, and then use the 'Extract Data Wizard' from the Distributed Geodatabase toolbar to extract data from a spatial region as defined by that graphic.

  1. Open ArcMap, and then open a Stored Display or .mxd of the data you want to extract.
  2. If it isn't already present, add the feature class used as the spatial extraction boundary (such as a county polygon).
  3. Set a definition query on the layer mentioned in step 2 (such as objectID=1 ).
  4. Ensure that layer is enabled in the Table of Contents, right-click it, and then select Convert Features to Graphics.
  5. Set the target as default and then click OK.

  6. Once you have a graphic, select it and then click the Extract Data tool from the Distributed Geodatabase toolbar.
  7. On the first page of the Extract Data Wizard that opens, ensure the radio buttons 'Data' and 'Geodatabase' are selected.
  8. Navigate to a .gdb that you want to extract to, select the check box to show advanced options for overriding the defaults, and then click Next.
  9. On the next page, select the radio button to extract based on the boundary of the currently selected graphic.
  10. Clear any feature classes or relationships that do not belong in the extract, and then click Next.
  11. Complete the rest of the wizard by following on-screen instructions.
