How to Export Files for CAD Software

Export to CAD Functionality

  1. To export a map to a CAD file format, open your preferred viewer.

  2. In the toolbar at the top of your screen, click Export to CAD. An ArcFM tab opens on the left side of your screen.

  3. Under Input Features, type in the name of the feature you wish to include in the CAD file. Each name should be enclosed in quotes. Multiple feature names should be separated by commas. The entire list must be enclosed in square brackets. Example: [“Electric Device”, “Electric Line”].

NOTE: The feature layers that can be included in this field are determined by the Choice List displayed under Parameter: in_features in the Rest URL link for the Export to CAD geoprocessing service. You can find more details in the Export to CAD topic in the ArcFM Web XI Installation and Configuration Guide.

  4. From the Exported File Type menu, select DWG or DXF.

  5. Expand Map Extent. Check the coordinates of the current map view. If you are satisfied with that information, click Set Current Extent.

  6. At the bottom of the window, click Export to CAD. After the CAD file is generated, you will see a link at the top of the ArcFM tab called Download CAD File.

  7. Click the link to download the generated CAD file.

  8. To find the generated CAD file, open the Downloads folder for the generated DXF or DWG file as specified.
