Using Wavepoint Static URLs in Fiber Manager

The hyperlink tool in ArcMap lets you access the Wavepoint URLs of racks, patch locations, splices, or cables to see the physical layout of an asset. The URL is added to a text field in the layer properties and the hyperlink tool opens the link.

You can also copy and paste the URL from full path trace or Otdr trace results, to emails or messages. This is an easy way to share trace results with team members. The trace link has a similar pattern see in the other URL. Example:yourwavepointinstance.com/Tracve/Otdr/13?objectid=1&distance=1300&lambda=&spliceCaseOid=null.

The components of the URL are made up of the serviceURI, the asset, view, and objectID. The URL can change based on which objectID and asset is wanted. This example shows the physical components you can click on.

  • {serviceURI}/patchlocation/view/{objectID}

  • {serviceURI}/cable/view/{objectID}

  • {serviceURI}/device/view/{objectID} — device that is an object related to something like a rack or patch location

  • {serviceURI}/devicelocation/view/{objectID} — stand alone device that is sketched on the map

  • {serviceURI}/splice/view/{objectID}

Example: If the asset is a rack and has an objectID of 1, the URL is yourwavepointinstance.com/Rack/View/1.

To add the URL to an asset:

  1. Go to a rack, device, cable, or patch panel object in Wavepoint.

  2. Copy the URL from the browser, such as arcfm-wavepoint-westus-dev.azurewebsites.net/Rack/View/9, arcfm-wavepoint-westus-dev.azurewebsites.net/Cable/View/16.

  3. Open ArcMap and select the patch location, rack, or cable on the map.

  4. On the Attribute Editor tab, expand the selection to the specific asset.

  5. In the attributes table, paste the URL in to one of the available text boxes and click Update. You can create an entry in the table just for the URL or use the Comments field.

  6. At the bottom, click Update.

  7. Right click on the affected layer, and select Properties from the menu.

  8. Click the Display tab.

  9. Under Hyperlinks, select the attribute field where the Wavepoint URL was entered and enable the URL radio button. Click OK.

  10. Now when you want to see an asset in Wavepoint, click the Hyperlink button and click the asset on the map. The URL for Wavepoint opens in a browser.
