Installing the Mounting Pan for PowerPacT L Sub-Feed Circuit Breaker onto an NF Panelboard

DANGER
hazard of electric shock, explosion, or arc flash
  • Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices. See NFPA 70E, CSA Z462, or NOM-029-STPS.
  • This equipment must only be installed and serviced by qualified electrical personnel.
  • Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside equipment.
  • Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm power is off.
  • Replace all devices, doors and covers before turning on power to this equipment.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.
  1. Remove the vertical end barrier from the panelboard, and discard.

  2. Install the NF 18-in. rail extensions to the existing mounting rails on the load end. Use the rail splices and four 10-32 x 5/16-in. self-tapping screws supplied in the kit.

  3. Install the circuit breaker mounting pan to the load end of the panelboard, using four 10-32 x 5/16-in. self-tapping screws.

  4. Attach the two deadfront support brackets using the two 10-32 x 5/16-in. self-tapping screws supplied in the kit.

  5. Attach the hard bus circuit breaker connectors loosely to the panelboard using the six 1/4-20 x 1 1/8-in. self-tapping screws supplied in the kit. Do not tighten the screws until .

NOTE: Example shown is for three-phase applications. For a single-phase panelboard the B-phase circuit breaker connector assembly is not required and should be discarded.
  6. Place the circuit breaker phase insulator on top of the circuit breaker mounting pan, center the holes from the insulator to the holes next to the hard bus circuit breaker connectors of the mounting pan. Ensure that the phase insulator fins are placed between the hard bus circuit breaker connectors.

  7. For bottom feed applications remove the bottom lug cover and terminal shield installed on the circuit breaker. For top feed applications remove the top lug cover and terminal shield installed on the circuit breaker.

  8. Remove the lugs (if installed) from the same end where the lug cover and terminal shield were removed from previous step, discard the lug assembly. For more information follow PowerPacT L-Frame Electronic Trip Circuit Breaker Installation (document number S1A78233).

  9. Install the new terminal shield using three terminal shield screws, supplied in the kit. Peel off the backing of the terminal shield danger labels and install.

    NOTICE
    HAZARD OF EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
    Do not overtighten screws.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.
  10. Install the PowerPacT L-Frame circuit breaker onto the mounting pan with the “ON” end positioned towards the top of the panelboard, using 10-32 x 3 1/2-in. self-tapping screws supplied in the kit.

NOTE: Discard the screws supplied with the PowerPacT L-Frame circuit breaker.
  11. Install the hard bus circuit breaker connectors to the circuit breaker using the three M10 x 25 mm supplied in this kit. Ensure the phase insulator fins are properly positioned between the hard bus circuit breaker connectors and aligned with the grooves from the circuit breaker.

  12. Tighten the M10 x 25 mm screws to 442 lb-in. (50 N•m).

  13. Tighten the six 1/4-20 x 1 1/8-in. screw to 60-65 lb-in. (6.8-7.3 N•m) from .

  14. Install the lug cover, supplied in the kit, onto the circuit breaker.
