Create CU System Favorite

CU Favorites provide the option to add additional CUs and related objects to the favorite. Follow these steps to create new CU system template favorites.
  1. Select the Compatible Units tab of the ArcFM System Favorites Manager. Then right-click on a System Favorites or Compatible Units category and select Create Favorite.
  2. Use the Select a Target dialog to choose a feature class that represents the GIS CU. Non-GIS CUs can be added later while creating the favorite.
TIP: The list of feature classes might take several minutes to populate, especially on large databases. To minimize scrolling through the list, after clicking the feature class drop-down, type the first letter of the desired feature class to jump to that part of the list.
  3. Add CUs to the favorite through one of following methods:
    • Right click the New Favorite node, then choose Add CU from the CU Library. In the Add Compatible Unit dialog, search for desired CUs, and use the Add tool to move them into the Selected pane. Click OK.

TIP: This option searches the list of CUs which are administered via the CU Admin tool. It doesn’t search the CUs that appear in the Favorites Manager.

    • To add Compatible Units or other favorite items from the Favorites Manager (i.e., to add unit favorites to a new bank or a CU that appears in the Compatible Units section, etc.), place the ArcFM System Favorites Manager and Create Favorite windows side-by-side, then drag the desired CU or Favorite from the System Favorites Manager onto the appropriate node in the Create Favorite dialog.

    • To add a non-GIS CU that appears in the Favorites Manager, right-click the desired node in the favorite and choose Add Non-GIS CU. Select one or more non-GIS CUs from the list. Select a value from the Work Function field. Type a value in the Quantity field to indicate the number of each non-GIS CU you wish to add. The Search field allows you to locate a specific non-GIS CU. Click the Find Next button to continue the search.

    • You can add related items to a given favorite if the favorite's feature class or object class is configured to have relationships. To add a related item, right-click the favorite node and select Add Related, then select the object you wish to relate to the current item.

In the Select CUs window, choose the CUs that correspond to the related objects you wish to add. Select a value from the Work Function and Subtype fields. Type a value in the Quantity field to indicate the number of each related objects you wish to add. The Search field allows you to locate a specific CU. Click the Find Next button to continue the search.

  4. Specify the work function for the favorite. The work function for the favorite is calculated based on the work functions of the all the CUs that are within it. There are two options for specifying work functions.
    • Defer specifying the work function until design time.

This option is the recommended approach to configuring work functions on favorites because it maximizes the favorite's reusability and reduces the overall number of favorites needed. When favorites are configured this way, a designer can filter favorites based on the available work functions of the CUs within them and place them accordingly. The designer can reuse the same favorite for multiple work functions without having to create duplicate copies of the favorite. To configure a favorite using this approach, set the work function of all CUs within it to None.

In Designer, when a user sends the favorite to the targets or design tab, the selected work function in the CU Filter is assigned to the favorite.

    • Define a work function for the favorite.

To create a favorite that is used only with a specific work function, regardless of the available work functions of the CUs within it, set the work function field on the desired CUs and the work function is automatically set on the favorite.

This approach is not recommended except for limited cases where a given favorite is intended to be used only with a single work function.

  5. Click Create to add the favorite to the ArcFM System Favorites Manager display.
TIP: If you need to create another CU favorite with almost all the same attributes except for a few, click Create again. This provides a copy of the favorite with the same attributes. Then edit the copy to change the one or two attributes needed. This is faster than creating a new CU favorite from scratch.
  6. Click Close.
