Operating the Display

The backlit LCD screen displays information as dark text against a light background. The cursor position is indicated by light text against a dark background. Placing the cursor on a screen path symbol (< or >) allows the cursor to move between screens, and placing the cursor on a value field allows that value to be changed. Underlined text indicates a selected item (or items) in a group of multiple choices. See Keys of a Controller for examples of these features.

Using the Keys

The four keys on the display provide navigation and configuration of editable screen fields. Keys of a Controller shows the keys and describes how to use them to navigate.

Keys of a Controller

Key name Key Key Application
Back Key The Back key moves the cursor to the previous option, changeable value, or over a screen path symbol (< or >)*.
Next Key The Next key moves the cursor to the next option, changeable value, or over a screen path symbol (< or >)*.
Minus Key

The Minus key is used to perform the following actions:

  • Toggle or scroll down through the choices of the highlighted item.

  • Decrease the value of the highlighted item.

  • Act as a shortcut key by moving the cursor to the left-pointing screen path symbol (<) when it is on any right-pointing screen path symbol (>)*.

Plus Key

The Plus key is used to perform the following actions:

  • Toggle or scroll up through the choices of the highlighted item.

  • Increase the value of the highlighted item.

  • Enter a screen when a screen path symbol is highlighted (< or >)*.

Navigating the Screen

To indicate multiple screen navigation, this manual uses the following format:

  • From the MAIN MENU, select STATUS/CONTROL > INPUT > SYNC, as shown below.

  • Select STATUS/CONTROL from the MAIN MENU screen.

  • Select INPUT from the STATUS/CONTROL MENU screen.

  • Select SYNC from the INPUTS screen to navigate to the INPUT SYNC STATUS screen.

Basic Navigation

Follow these steps to perform basic screen navigation:

  1. Press the Back key or Next key to highlight the right-pointing screen path symbol (>).

  2. Press the Plus key to navigate to the screen.

In the following screen examples, the cursor in the MAIN MENU screen is highlighting the SETUP screen path symbol, leading to the SETUP MENU screen.

Returning to Previous Screen

To return to the previous screen:

  1. Press the Back key or Next key to highlight this symbol (<) on top left of the screen.

  2. Press the Plus key to go back one screen.

The cursor returns to the previous screen (the MAIN MENU in this example). In the SETUP MENU screen (previously shown) the cursor position returns to the MAIN MENU screen when the Plus key is pressed.

NOTE: If the cursor is on a screen path symbol, press the Minus key as a shortcut to the left-pointing screen path symbol (<) on top left of the screen.

Changing a Value

To change a screen option value, follow these steps:

  1. Use the Back key or Next key to navigate through the screen options and place the cursor over the value to be change.

  2. Press the Minus key or Plus key to change the value. The Plus key increases the value; the Minus key decreases the value.

EXAMPLE: The cursor position can be advanced (Next key) to the Minutes value or can be retreated (Back key) to <TIME/Date. The cursor can only be moved over selectable fields when the last selectable field in a screen is highlighted. Pressing the Next key will move the cursor to the topmost field (<TIME/DATE).

Entering or Changing a Name

To enter or change a name, follow these steps:

  1. Use the Back key or Next key to place the cursor over each character to be entered or changed.

  2. Press the Minus key or Plus key to scroll backward or forward to the desired character. In the following example, the cursor position will allow the letter “T” in “THANKSGIVING to be changed.

    NOTE: Valid characters include A–Z, 0–9, + - ‘ # / ( ) & , . “ @ = [SPACE].

Selecting From a List

If selecting from a list, note that there are two types of lists:

  1. Scrolling List – only ONE choice is displayed at a time.

    1. Press the Back key or Next key to move the cursor over the option that needs to be changed. This highlights the first item in a scrolling list.

    2. Use the Minus key or Plus key to scroll through the available choices. The highlighted text changes each time to indicate the next choice. In the following example, YES is selected from TWO different choices, YES or NO.

  2. Marked List – all available choices are displayed; selected options are marked with an underline.

    1. Press the Back key or Next key to move the cursor over an item in the list.

    2. To select the item, press the Plus key while the item is highlighted. The item is now underlined. In the following example, the days Monday through Friday are selected.

    3. To de-select an item, press the Minus key while the item is highlighted.

The underline disappears from the item. In the following example, the days Monday through Friday are now deselected.

Saving Changes

Some changed controller data can be saved by editing a field and moving the cursor away from the entered value, but all changes can be saved by exiting the current screen.

EXAMPLE: When changing an ON time from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM, the new time becomes valid after exiting the screen.

Pop-Up Error Screen

The controller automatically checks the changes made and provides a user alert to data entry errors with an error screen. Examples of data entry errors are entering illegal dates, such as February 31, or placing an end date prior to a start date. In these instances, upon exiting the screen, an ENTRY ERROR screen as seen in the following, displays with a message describing the error. The screen path symbol leads to the previous screen to correct the error.
