How to Add a New Model Name

To add a new model name, follow these steps:

  1. In ArcCatalog > Catalog Tree, right-click your geodatabase and choose Properties.

  2. Click the Domains tab, if necessary.

  3. In the list of domains, scroll down until you find the proper “container” domain of model names. Model names themselves are stored as Coded Values within a domain. It is like a “domain of model names.” Here are the possible container domains:

    • Class Model Names (assigned at the feature or object level):

      • Customer Object Class Model Name

      • Designer Object Class Model Name

      • Domain Independent Object Class Model Name

      • Electric Object Class Model Name

      • Fiber Object Class Model Name

      • Gas Object Class Model Name

      • Identify Tool Object Class Model Name

      • Water Object Class Model Name

    • Field Model Names (assigned at the field level):

      • Customer Field Model Name

      • Designer Field Model Name

      • Domain Independent Field Model Name

      • Electric Field Model Name

      • Fiber Field Model Name

      • Gas Field Model Name

      • Water Field Model Name

  4. In this example, we are using the Electric Object Class Model Name domain. Click the domain once to highlight.

  5. At the bottom of the dialog under Coded Values, scroll down until you find the first empty row.

  6. Type the model name for both Code and Description.

TIP: The fields do not accept a copy/paste. It looks like they do, but when you click OK, it clears them out. However, you can paste the model name in full, delete the last letter (in this case, “Y”), then re-type it.

  7. Click Apply.

  8. Repeat with other model names.

  9. Click OK to close the dialog.
