Breaker Racking, Moving and Handling Options
Whether configured as a single unit or as multiple units, assembled together within a shipping group, Power-Zone 4 switchgear enclosures are designed to withstand the rigors of lifting, handling, shipping, and setting into place. Maximum sizes are determined by shipping dimensions required for transportation on common carrier trucks and movement through standard equipment location openings (door and portals). For ease of handling by a crane, all shipping splits 72 in. wide and less are equipped with lifting straps at each corner of the shipping split. (Single section shipping splits can be requested as an option.) Lifting straps are not furnished on shipping sections longer than 72 in. and must be handled by rollers, slings, or other means.
Circuit breaker lifter bars are used with 3-pole (see Typical Circuit Breaker Lifter Bar below), 4-pole, 6-pole and 8-pole MasterPacT circuit breakers. The size of the circuit breaker determines whether the inside or outside notches on the lifter bar will be used.
Traveling Lifter Assembly
A rail-mounted, traveling type, circuit breaker lifting device is optionally available with indoor type switchgear. The lifting device is capable of lifting MasterPacT circuit breakers into and out of any compartment. The circuit breaker is raised or lowered by manually cranking the hoisting mechanism. The manually operated traveling lifter assembly is supplied with outdoor walk-in enclosures as standard. The maximum load weight of the travel lifter assembly is 300 lbs.
Floor Crane
Standard Width, Floor Crane Specifications
A floor crane can move into and out of any compartment and can be used with the lifter bar to move a MasterPacT circuit breaker into a dedicated work area. The Standard Width Floor Crane has dimensions as shown in figure 18 above and has a rated load capacity of 1,000 lbs. It can be used to lift 3,4,6 or 8-pole breakers with the associated breaker lifter bars.
Reduced Width Floor Crane Specifications
Designed for 36” aisleways common in electrical rooms, the reduced width floor crane allows 360-degree rotation and lifting of MasterPacT 3-pole breakers. (Not for use on 6-pole, 4-pole or 8-pole breaker construction.) Specially designed with folding legs and lifting arm to minimize storage space this is frequently ordered for Front accessible switchgear applications where space is a premium.

Remote Racking
MasterPacT NT/NW, MTZ1, MTZ2, MTZ3 Remote Racking Device enhances safety of maintenance personnel. Provides ability to operate racking mechanism of a low-voltage draw-out circuit breaker from a remote location. Designed to help you reduce the arc flash safety hazard for personnel during installation, startup and maintenance procedures by allowing maintenance personnel the ability to “rack” a low voltage draw-out circuit breaker from a location outside of the arc flash boundary. The compact, portable, and simple design enhances the effective use of the remote racking device. The remote racking device allows the operator to perform circuit breaker racking operations from a distance of up to 9.1 m (30 ft.) away from the circuit breaker using the controller. This distance exceeds the arc flash boundary described in the arc flash safety guidelines outlined in NFPA 70E.
Overview
Features and Benefits
-
Significantly reduce the risk of exposure to direct blast or projectiles during an arc flash event
-
Personnel can operate the racking mechanism of circuit breakers from a distance of 30 ft. allowing operators to be outside of the arc flash boundary area
