Before You Begin Creating a Flexible Feature

Before creating a flexible feature, confirm that the prerequisites listed below are met and use the Model Names and Autoupdaters topics to determine which model names and autoupdaters the feature requires.

Prerequisites for Flexible Features

IMPORTANT: Before adding flexible fiber features, the following prerequisites must be met.

  • The Basic ArcFM Configuration has been completed.

  • A dataset for fiber features exists. If not, create a dataset for fiber. See the Esri documentation for more information about creating datasets.

  • A geometric network for the dataset exists. If not, create a network. See the Create Fiber Geometric Network topic for more information.

  • Create the SpliceType domain.

Model Names and Autoupdaters

Before adding a flexible feature, it is advisable to know which model names and autoupdaters the flexible feature needs.

TIP: It may be helpful to print out the worksheet and record the model names and autoupdaters you plan to use.

The following topics can help you determine which fiber-specific model names and autoupdaters the feature needs.

  • The Required by All Features topic describes the settings needed for all features. These settings are already listed in the worksheet.

  • The Define Points and Lines topic describes the settings needed to define the feature.

  • The Settings for Features with Color topic describes the settings needed to define the feature's color.

  • The Define Relationships topic describes the settings needed to define how the feature relates to other features.

  • The Connectable Objects topic describes the settings needed to enable the feature to work with Connection Manager.

  • The Configure Availability Settings topic describes the settings needed display the availability of related objects (e.g., fiber strands) on the parent feature (e.g., fiber optic cable).

  • The Add to Reports topic describes the settings needed to enable the feature to appear in the reports.

  • The Add to Fiber Circuits topic describes the settings needed for a feature participating in the Circuit Manager.

  • The Possible Paths Tool Settings topic describes the settings needed to use the Possible Paths Tool.
