Fiber Colors

Fiber Manager supports several methods of color-coding buffer tubes and fiber strands. As fiber technology has improved, more and more fibers are inserted into buffer tubes, and the traditional twelve-color method is no longer adequate to track individual fiber strands in high-count cables. Thus, the application supports adding stripes and blocks on top of the base color.

IMPORTANT: Fiber Manager supports combinations of stripes and blocks up to 6 total. For example, at the maximum end you could have 6 stripes and 0 blocks, 0 stripes and 6 blocks, 4 stripes and 2 blocks, 1 stripe and 5 blocks, etc.

Color Coding Method

Representation in the Color Domain

Solid Color

In the database domain, type a single integer value representing the color along with a user-friendly description.

One Stripe

To add a stripe, immediately after the solid color integer, type a dash followed by the integer value for the stripe color. For example, a black stripe is -0, a white stripe is -16777215, a red stripe is -16711680, etc. Also type a user-friendly description.

Two Stripes

To add two stripes, immediately after the first stripe color integer, type another dash and integer value for the second stripe color. For example, two black stripes is -0-0, a black stripe and a red stripe is -0-16711680, etc. Also type a user-friendly description.

Six Stripes

To add six stripes, continue the pattern of adding a dash and integer value for the stripe color. For example, six black stripes is –0–0–0–0–0–0. Three black stripes followed by three red stripes is –0–0–0–16711680–16711680–16711680. Also type a user-friendly description.

One Block

To add a block, immediately after the solid color integer, type a dash followed by the letter “B” and the integer value for the block color. For example, a black block is -B0, a white block is -B16777215, a red block is -B16711680, etc. Also type a user-friendly description.

Two Blocks

To add two blocks, immediately after the first block color integer, type another dash followed by the letter “B” and the integer value for the block color. For example, two black blocks is -B0-B0, a black block and a red block is -B0-B16711680, etc. Also type a user-friendly description.

Six Blocks

To add six blocks, continue the pattern of adding a dash followed by the letter “B” and integer value for the block color. For example, six black blocks is –B0–B0–B0–B0–B0–B0. Three black blocks followed by three red blocks is –B0–B0–B0–B16711680–B16711680–B16711680. Also type a user-friendly description.

Stripes and Blocks

You can combine colors, stripes, and blocks by combining the methods above. For example, two black stripes and 2 black blocks is -0-0-B0-B0, two black stripes and 2 red blocks is -0-0-B16711680-B16711680, etc. Also type a user-friendly description.

IMPORTANT: The Codes in this domain are the integer equivalents of the RGB/Hex/CMYK representations of color. As an example, the color Blue could be represented as 0,0,225 using RGB, represented as 0000FF using Hex, or 1, 1, 0, 0 using CMYK. The integer equivalent of 255 is a way to enter the same color Blue as a single entry (no commas). As one more example, the color Orange could be represented as 255, 128, 0 using RGB, represented as FF8000 using Hex, or represented as 0, .5, 1, 0 using CMYK. Instead of having strings of descriptors separated by commas, the application uses the integer equivalent of 16744448 to understand and display the proper Orange color.

Color choices are seen throughout the application.
