Offline Maps and Spatial Reference

Offline Map Data Only

Toggling this option on sets up offline packages to auto-download, thereby helping your users begin working in the app with less effort. Users logging in for the first time are notified by the app why they can't see any map data. Refer to the Mobile Configuration guide for more information on configuring offline packages..

Spatial Reference

Spatial reference represents a way of manipulating a spherical, conical, or cylindrical model of the Earth and displaying it as a flat plane. Esri utilizes a standard to help define where the plane is centered on the globe based on the chosen model. A set of well-known spatial references can be browsed at https://spatialreference.org.

Setting the source map of the spatial reference to be used in ArcFM Mobile happens on the Advanced tab in the Mobile plugin.

You can view the spatial reference ID via an Esri service (i.e., items that you publish with ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro). ID information is provided under the Spatial Reference section of the Esri service you choose.

TIP: Unless all of your maps share one spatial reference, there might be instances when you see the warning that is shown in the images below.

Usually customer data has a well-known spatial reference ID. In situations where there is no well-known ID, you are provided with verbose, “well-known text” rather than an ID.

The Advanced tab allows you to select the map that is used by ArcFM Mobile to define the spatial reference that all map layers conform to in the application. Perform the following to set the spatial reference source map:

  1. Choose Basemaps or Operational Maps.

  2. In the drop-down, select the map to use as the spatial reference source. The well-known ID or the well-known text is displayed. You can also begin typing a map name to locate the one you want.

  3. Click Save.

IMPORTANT:
  • If you are using a spatial reference other than Web Mercator, we highly recommend that you create your own basemap service in your own spatial reference. Otherwise, your users could experience unreasonable performance issues.

  • When you use your own map service as a basemap, you should enable tile caching.

On the Operational Maps tab, any map that is not in the spatial reference you have set is indicated by a warning icon.

IMPORTANT: The spatial reference of a selected map might be deemed inconsistent with the Spatial Reference Source for your tenant. This can cause location or projection inaccuracies. Click View Current Spatial Reference Source to be switched to the Advanced tab.

The following Esri topics are intended to help you better understand spatial referencing and become aware of the impacts of selecting different spatial reference sources:
