Multiple Feeds and Loops

Features that have two potential sources of electricity are part of a multiple feed circuit. In the image below, the features are fed by two circuit source features. You can identify the multiple-feed situation by the affected features' Feeder Manager 2.0 fields. The Number of Feeders field displays 2 and Feeder IDs field lists both Feeder IDs affecting the switches.

Feeder Manager 2.0 opens up a few possibilities to visualize multi-fed features:

• Use the Feeder QA rules provided in Feeder Manager 2.0 to find and select all multi-fed features.

  

• Turn on the Flow Direction. Multi-fed features show a dot, as opposed to a directional arrow.

  

• In the Stored Display, create a layer that is symbolized by the Number of Feeders field for all conductors and devices.

  

  IMPORTANT: Symbolizing by Feeder Manager 2.0 fields can be helpful. But, for performance considerations, it is recommended only as a part of a QA process, not as a standard symbol set for an asset map.

A loop occurs when a conductor feeds back into itself. When using any electric tracing tools, if any paths, upstream or downstream, discovered by the traces contain features belonging to a loop, then all features in the loop will be included in the results.

• Turn on the Flow Direction. Looped features show a dot, as opposed to a directional arrow.
