Interpreting Electric Trace Results
Let's take a closer look at the trace results. The numbered list below helps explain each area of the map.
- Single phases A, B, and C are color-coded yellow, pink,
and blue, respectively. Transformers and Open Tie Devices are indicated
by color-coded circles that correspond to the phase.
Deselecting any of the single phases results in recalculation of the above items, in addition to removal of the visual display in the map for that phase. Any or all of the phases can be selected and deselected by clicking the desired icon. Below is what our example trace looks like with the A phase deselected, after which the Affected Customers, Open Tie Devices, and Transformers values all change.
- Combination phases
are also color-coded in the map and the key to that color-coding can
be viewed by clicking the Info
button. Combination phases cannot be deselected directly; they're shown when any one phase in the combination is selected. For example, if the trace contained a line segment having phase BC, if either the B or C phase is selected, the BC segments are still displayed. Only when both the B and C phases are deselected do the BC segments no longer display. Clicking anywhere on your screen dismisses the combination phase key.
- Calculated results
of the trace include the number of affected customers in the isolation
area, along with the number of switchable devices upstream of the
isolation area, open tie devices participating in the isolation, and
transformers in the isolation area, plus expandable sections for each.
To view a particular device in the trace, start by expanding the desired device type. The image below shows each of the expanded sections for our example trace. When they are expanded, the listed items are also represented visually in the map with markers, which are quite similar to the markers displayed for Search and Identify results.
To locate an item in the map and view its details, either click View or double-click the record. Alternatively, you can click a marker in the map to highlight the associated record in the list. Transformer markers only appear in the map when you click a transformer in the list.
- The trace started at this point.
- These are the upstream trace results. The upstream trace is color-coded in gold. Upstream devices are indicated by gold circles.
- These are the downstream trace results, which are color-coded according to phase.
