Add Markups to a Map

The steps below walk you through the various markup tools available.

TIP: The specific markup styles available to you depend on the configuration of the markup feature service.

  1. To draw freehand in the map, click the Freehand tool and then draw on the map as desired. When you click the down arrow to the right of the tool, you can select from four different types of lines in three different colors.

  2. To place a callout in the map, click the Callout tool. When you hover over a spot in the map, the cursor follows the tool. The cursor sits on the tool when you are ready to place the callout.

After you click to place the callout, a textbox activates for you to type your text, then click OK to save.

  3. To place a dimension line in the map, click the Dimension Line tool. Click once in the map and a grey dot is placed at the starting point. Move the cursor to extend the line where you want to place the end point.

After you click to place the end point, type a dimension for the line and click OK .

The dimension line is placed in the map and the dimension is centered on the line.

  4. To highlight an area of the map, click the Highlight tool. Click once to place the first vertex, and move the cursor to extend the line, then click to place more vertices.

    Double-click to end the highlight.

  5. To place a point in the map, click the Point tool, then click spots in the map where you want points placed. When you click the down arrow to the right of the tool, you can select from three different types of points.

TIP: Again, the items available in the drop-down are driven by the configuration of the markup feature service.

  6. To place a line in the map, click the Line tool (this one has a down arrow to the right, whereas the Dimension Line tool doesn’t). When you click the down arrow next to the tool, you can select from three different types of lines.

TIP: Remember, the items available in the drop-down are driven by the configuration of the markup feature service.

Click to place vertices, then double-click to end the line segment, or click the Finish Edit button.

  7. To place a polygon in the map, click the Polygon tool.

When you click on the down arrow to the right of the tool, you can select from three different ways to fill your polygon.

Keep clicking until you have the shape you want, then click the Finish Edit button.
