Recommendations for Protecting Local Access to the MicroLogic HMI

Functions Accessible from HMI

Any person having access to the enclosure where the circuit breaker is located has access to the MicroLogic HMI.

Some critical functions such as the protection settings for the equipment can be configured from the MicroLogic HMI.

Recommendations for Protecting Access Through the MicroLogic Active HMI

The MicroLogic Active HMI can be PIN code protected. It is recommended that you use PIN code protection on your MicroLogic Active control unit. For further information about PIN code protection, see Designing a PIN Code Policy.

For additional security, you must:

  • Seal the protective cover on the MicroLogic Active HMI.

  • Seal the protective cover on the MicroLogic Active USB port.

  • Install the circuit breaker in a locked area.

  • Keep that area locked at all times.

  • Give the key or access code to authorized personnel only.

For further information on protecting access to the circuit breaker, refer to Implementing a Restricted Access Policy.

Recommendations for Protecting Access Through Other MicroLogic HMI

The MicroLogic HMI in the following circuit breakers is not PIN code or password protected:

  • MasterPacT MTZ circuit breakers with MicroLogic X control units

  • MasterPacT NT/NW circuit breakers with MicroLogic trip units

  • ComPacT circuit breakers

  • PowerPacT circuit breakers

Additionally, not all MicroLogic HMI are capable of being physically locked to prevent access to the display screen. Therefore, to protect access to the HMI, you must:

  • Seal the protective cover on the MicroLogic HMI, if the cover is capable of being sealed.

  • Install the circuit breaker in a locked area.

  • Keep that area locked at all times.

  • Give the key or access code to authorized personnel only.

For further information on protecting access to the circuit breaker, refer to Implementing a Restricted Access Policy.

Locking Protection Settings

The protection settings of the following circuit breakers can be physically locked to prevent them from being changed locally on the HMI:

  • MasterPacT MTZ circuit breakers with MicroLogic X control units

  • MasterPacT NT/NW circuit breakers with MicroLogic trip units

  • ComPacT circuit breakers

  • PowerPacT circuit breakers

By default, changing the protection settings from the HMI is allowed in these circuit breakers. If you do not wish to use this function, it is recommended that you lock the protection settings. For more information, refer to the MicroLogic user guides
