Auto Structure Relate

The out-of-the-box autoupdater Auto Structure Relate maintains structural attachment associations between features and structures whenever they are added, moved, or deleted. When a feature or structure is added, moved, or deleted, the autoupdater locates other eligible attachment features within a search distance. Then, each feature is attached to the new closest structure. It relies on the Utility Network rules to determine if the features and structures can be associated, and includes a search distance parameter in your orchestration workflow that you must specify so the autoupdater can determine the radius the moved feature needs to be within another eligible feature to be associated/disassociated. If numerous structures are located, the autoupdater always associates to the closest structure and also assumes features will only be associated to ONE structure at a time.

If there are no Utility Network rules defined to support the structural attachment between a feature and a structure, then they are not associated, even if it's the closest structure. Features can be associated to more than one structure if the association is created manually. However, such features would be re-associated to only the closest structure any time the feature OR nearest structure is moved. If there are eligible features you would like to exclude from auto association, you can do so by defining specific asset types or network categories in the orchestration exclude parameters.

If the parameter named MaintainLastValidAttachment is set to false, then features and structures are disassociated if either is moved farther than the search distance and no other structure was found. If MaintainLastValidAttachment is set to true, then moving a feature outside the distance buffer will only disassociate a current attachment if a new attachment association is found.

In your orchestration workflow, you also have the option to define the following:

  • The radius to search for attachment options. This parameter is required.

  • Specify many network categories to be excluded when searching for eligible attachments or structures.

  • Specify many LayerID/AssetGroup/AssetTypes to be excluded when searching for eligible attachments or structures.

  • Set the parameter MaintainLastValidAttachment to True or False. The default value is False.
