Valve Auto Size

The out-of-the-box autoupdater Valve Auto Size can be used within the water, gas, and sewer domains. When placing a new valve, or moving an existing valve, the autoupdater runs in the background, and modifies the diameter of the valve to match the diameter of the main or pipe to which it is snapped. This autoupdater ensures data quality is maintained during edits. To use this autoupdater, perform the following steps:
  1. Open Solution Center.
  2. Select the Editor button, then click the Editor Maps tab.
  3. Select a Domain Network to configure and choose the water, gas or sewer domain.
  4. Locate the Valve feature class in the left column. Click on it. This displays a list of field model names that can be assigned to valve fields.
  5. Locate the DeviceDiameter field model name in that list and choose the field that represents the Valve Device Diameter from the drop-down list.
  6. Click Save.
TIP: You can add this field model name to any point feature class that has valid Junction Edge Connectivity rules to connect to lines, and this autoupdater works, even if the feature class is not a valve.
  7. Using the same steps, locate the Main or Pipe feature class in the left column. Click on it. This displays a list of field model names that can be assigned to Main or Pipe fields.
  8. Locate the PipeDiameter field model name in that list and choose the field that represents the Main or Pipe Diameter field from the drop-down list.
  9. Click Save.

If a valve is placed in between multiple pipes, all pipes must have the same pipe diameter value for the autoupdater to populate the valve’s device diameter field. If they do not, the valve’s device diameter field is not updated. In addition, if a new pipe is added to an existing pipe/valve connection, the autoupdater will not fire and will not change that valve’s device diameter value.

In your orchestration workflow, you also have the option to define network categories and/or feature types that specify what valves and pipes to exclude. In other words, valves and pipes that belong to one of the specified categories, or have one of the given feature types, will be ignored by the autoupdater.
