PROFIBUS DP Protocol Principle and Main Features
Overview
PROFIBUS DP is an open industrial standard for integrated communication. It is a serial fieldbus, which provides a decentralized connection between sensors, actuators and I/O modules produced by various manufacturers, and connects them to the superset control level.
PROFIBUS DP (Distributed Periphery - Primary/Secondary Network) is a PROFIBUS communication profile which is optimized for performance. It is optimized for speed, efficiency and inexpensive hook-up cost and is designed especially for communication between automation systems and distributed peripheral equipment.
The PROFIBUS DP network supports multiple primary systems with several secondaries.
