Operating Temperature and Derating
The dimmer units must be installed in a location where the operating environment temperature (the air temperature immediately surrounding the dimmer unit) is maintained at or below the rated operating temperature.
The dimmer channel ratings are chosen such that during operation with rated load on all channels, and with the unit installed in an environment maintained at the rated operating temperature, the internal components are maintained at temperatures that help to ensure long-term reliability. As a result, there is a trade-off between rated load and rated operating temperature.
The rated load is at 100 % with the temperature of the operating environment temperature equal or below 35 °C, and is reduced linearly according to the chart, to 50 % of nominal at the maximum operating environment temperature of 55 °C.
If the operating environment temperature is greater than 35 °C, the maximum load per channel must be limited in accordance with the chart below. The operating environment temperature must always be maintained below 55 °C.

Flexible Loading (5504DHD High Power Dimmer only)
Each channel on this model is capable of being loaded up to a maximum of 5 A, as long as the total loading across any 2 adjacent channels does not exceed 6 A.
For example, if the load on Channel 1 is 4.5 A, then the load on Channel 2 must be limited to 1.5 A or less. If Channel 2 is loaded to 1.5 A, then Channel 3 must be limited to 4.5 A (as it is also adjacent to Channel 2).
Power Loss/Heat Load
The dimmer units produce heat according to the following table. The amount of heat produced by the dimmer unit depends on various factors such as whether the C-Bus Power Supply is enabled, the load on the C-Bus Power Supply, and the load current flowing in each channel. The total heat output of the dimmer unit and all other devices contained within the distribution board must be considered when designing the distribution board, to ensure all devices within the distribution board are maintained within their rated operating temperature range.
