Designer Options

ArcMap's Customize menu item lists several options for ArcMap and ArcFM products. To access Designer options, select Customize > Designer Options. To access ArcFM Options, select Customize > ArcFM Options.

  • The General tab is where you determine how to treat compatible unit (CU) children when you delete or split the parent.

  • The WL Assignment tab is where you determine CU assignment and work location numbering.

  • The Secondary Circuit tab is where you determine the settings for Secondary Circuit Analysis.

IMPORTANT: The Structural Analysis tool and its options are deprecated and no longer have any functionality in the application.

General Options

You can use General Options to determine how to treat children of a compatible unit (CU) that you delete or split.

  1. Select Customize > Designer Options > General tab.

  2. Indicate the appropriate settings.
    • Delete all its children: will delete all CUs or features associated with a Work Location.

    • Leave spatial children: will leave all features containing spatial information and delete all non-spatial children.

    • Leave all its children: will delete no children. This is the default setting.

  3. Click OK.

WL Assignment Tab

Use the WL Assignment tab in Designer Options to determine how compatible units (CUs) are assigned to work locations.

  1. From the ArcMap Customize menu, select Designer Options.
  2. Select the WL Assignment tab.

  3. Select a Symbolized CU Option: Assign all CUs, Assign unassociated CUs, or Assign Selected Features.
    • Assign all CUs: Assigns all CUs to the nearest work location within the search tolerance.

    • Assign unassociated CUs: Assigns all CUs without a work location assignment within the search radius to the nearest work location.

    • Assign Selected Features: Only assigns the CUs that have been selected to the nearest work location within the search tolerance.

  4. Select from Work Location auto numbering options including: Design Tab Order or Geographic Location. The Design Tab Order option uses the order as it is shown on the Design tab in the Attribute Editor. The Geographic Location option moves from the currently selected work location to the nearest, etc.
  5. If you select Use Highest Number, the tool will identify the highest number Work Location ID assigned and begin numbering with the next highest.
  6. You may select a beginning number and an increment. This allows you to determine the starting number for the work location ID and the increment by which additional IDs are calculated.
  7. You may elect to Renumber all Work Locations if adding to existing WLs.
  8. Select the Prevent Duplicates checkbox to ensure no two work locations share the same ID, and all are in numerical order without gaps. For example, map grid IDs 1, 3, 5 and 6 already exist. When the user selects the CU Work Location Assignment button with this option selected, the first map grid is given ID 2, then ID 4, then ID 7, 8, 9, etc. This checkbox is disabled when Renumber All Work Locations is selected.
  9. Specify a search distance. This is the range a CU must be within to be assigned to the WL.
  10. Click OK.

Secondary Circuit Tab

To set the options for Secondary Circuit Analysis, click Tools > Designer Options from the main menu . Select the Secondary Circuit tab. Here you can modify:

For reporting voltages, this example shows how each of the different formats displays a value of 115 volts in a circuit whose base voltage is 120 volts:

  • Percent: 95.8%

  • Percent drop: –4.2%

  • Volts: 115V

  • Per Unit: 0.958U

For transformer overload threshold, this is the value that is consulted when the circuit model display draws attention to an "overloaded" transformer. When the transformer carries more than this percentage of its kVA rating as load, it is considered overloaded.
