ArcFM Stored Items Overview
The ArcFM Stored Items dropdown menu is available on the ArcFM and ArcFM Viewer toolbars and provides access to Page Templates, Stored Displays, and Documents from a single tabbed interface. These tools provide users with the functionality to access and manage stored items (e.g., stored displays, page templates, and documents).
-
Without sufficient database permissions, you receive an error when attempting to rename System Stored Display folders using the Stored Items Manager. If you require this permission, an administrator can grant you write access to the MM_SYSTEM_PACKAGES table.
-
If multiple users will be saving system stored items, then it is important that their clocks be synchronized. This ensures that locks are honored properly when determining who saved a system stored item last.
-
Each stored display and page template can contain only one data frame.
-
Note that if you save a stored display with custom map scales, these custom scales will not be visible when the stored display is opened in ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine.
-
Version information is not saved with Stored Displays, Stored Documents, or Page Templates.
-
If a customer's workflow adds layers containing features that participate in a geometric network, those layers must be present when opening a new stored display. This ensures that existing geometric networks are fully removed from the ESRI Utility Network Analyst.
-
We support stored displays with joins only if every join in the stored display is based upon a pre-existing relationship class.
Stored Items List
This pulldown menu is available on the ArcFM and ArcFM Viewer toolbars and displays three tabs that allow you to open page templates, stored displays or documents. It also displays the name of the currently selected stored item (if there is one).
There are two ways to select a stored item from the Stored Items field. Type-ahead functionality in the field displays stored items as you type. The icons next to the stored item names indicate the type:
You may also select a stored item using the tabbed interface:
- Click the arrow on the pulldown menu to display the tabs.
- Select a tab.
- Double-click the stored item you want to open, or right-click it and select Open.
- After you've opened a stored item, the Most Recently Used list may be displayed on that tab (depending on the Options settings).
- Double-click an item in the Most Recently Used list to
select it.
If the list becomes too long to view in the window, you can click and drag the edge of the pulldown window to expand it to be longer and/or wider. Use the Stored Items Manager to create, modify or delete stored items.
Save Stored Item As
This tool allows you to save the selected
map layers and/or layout view as a stored item. If you do not have
a stored item selected and select the Save tool from the Stored Items
pull-down menu, it will act like the Save As... tool.
Stored Displays and Bookmarks: Bookmarks may be saved with a stored display and will be available only within that display. The stored display must be saved after the bookmark has been created. If you are adding a bookmark to an existing stored display, you must open the stored display before creating the bookmark. You may also create a bookmark, then create a new stored display. The bookmark will be saved with the new stored display. To create a bookmark, browse in the map to the location you want to mark. Then select Bookmarks > Create. Save the stored display after creating the bookmark.
Documents and Multiple Data Frames: Documents allow you to store information from two or more different databases in multiple data frames so you can quickly switch among views and data frames. Activated data frames are shown in bold on the Display tab or are highlighted in the Layout view of the map. Create multiple data frames, then save the document.
- Select a value in the Item Type field.
-
Stored Display saves the layers in the Data view.
-
Page Template saves the elements in the Layout view.
-
Document saves both the layers in the Data view and the elements in the Layout view.
-
- Select System or User depending on the type of stored item. If you want to make the stored item available to other users, select System.
- Enter a name for your new stored item.
- Select a folder in which to save the stored item. The pulldown menu displays all folders currently available for the User or System stored items (depending on which radio button is selected).
- You may click the arrow to the right of the Save in field to display the tree and create new folders.
- Click OK to save changes.TIP: To copy a Stored Display from one geodatabase to another, first save the stored display as an .mxd file. Load the .mxd into ArcMap on a machine that doesn't have a connection to the original database. The layers come in with broken data sources, but you can then reset the data sources to the new database and save it as a new Stored Display. This is handy for one or two Stored Displays. If you need to re-point all Stored Displays from one database path to another, use the Data Source Wizard tool in ArcCatalog.
ArcFM Stored Items Manager
The ArcFM Stored Items Manager allows you to manage all page templates, stored displays and documents in a single user interface. To open the Stored Items Manager, click Stored Items Manager on the Stored Items pull-down menu .
The Stored Items Manager organizes stored items into three tabs: Page Templates, Stored Displays, Documents. Select the tab with the type of items you want to manage. Each tab allows you to rename, copy, paste, or delete items. You may also create new folders.
The up/down arrows above the Rename button allow you to re-order stored items and folders.
Rename: Select any node in the tree (folder or stored item) and click the Rename button to assign a new name. You may also right-click any item in the tree and select Rename. Enter a new name and press Enter on the keyboard to save it.
Copy/Paste: Select any node in the tree and click the Copy button (or right-click and select Copy) to copy that item. Select a folder and click the Paste button to paste the item into the selected folder. You may also right-click a folder and select Paste. The Paste tool remains disabled unless you have a folder selected.
Drag/Drop: You can drag a stored item from one folder to another to move it. Stored items cannot be moved from the System folder. When you drag/drop from this folder to another folder (outside the system folder), the stored item is copied.
New Folder: This tool allows you to create folders to organize your stored items. You must have a folder selected to enable this tool. You may also right-click a folder and select New Folder.
Delete: Select a stored item and click the Delete button (or right-click and select Delete) to delete the stored item from the database. You may also use the Delete key on your keyboard. You will be prompted to confirm deletion of items. Folders may not be deleted unless they contain no stored items.
Stored Items Options
Use the Options to determine display settings for the ArcFM Stored Items list. To open the Options dialog, select Options from the Stored Items pull-down on the ArcFM toolbar.
Display: Select the checkboxes for the user interface elements you want to display in the Stored Items list. By default, all checkboxes are selected.
Settings: The Maximum size of Most Recently Used List setting determines the maximum number of items that may be displayed in the Most Recently Used list.
Auto Expand Folders: Select a radio button to indicate the number of levels to expand folders when the tab is selected.
