Extended Data Overview
Extended Data allows you to maintain data specific to your work management system (WMS). Extended data will appear only if a design is open and the CU has been configured properly (see Configuring ArcFM Solution online help). You may edit extended data for a single CU using the Extended Data tab or edit extended data for multiple CUs using the Extended Data Editor.
If you have an Extended Data Definition table set for the selected class(es) (Support Structure in the example above), then you will see the Extended Data tab. Extended data replaces the Metadata Editor setting for this class.
Extended data may be propagated to the child nodes using the Extended Data Editor. If you set extended data for a work request, it may be inherited by the design, work location, and CU nodes beneath it.
The fields on the Extended Data tab also appear on the Site Conditions tab in Workflow Manager. You may edit these fields on this tab as well.
Extended Data Tab
Use the Extended Data tab to modify extended data for individual features. Select a node on the Design tab (work request, design, work location, or a child node of a CU) and click the Extended Data tab to view the data for that node. The Extended Data tab is not available for the parent node of a CU (POLE WOOD CLASS H1 in the example below).
Select options from the pulldown menus and click Apply to save your changes. If your Extended Data Definition table uses domains, these values will be available just as they are in the Attributes tab. If you want to propagate the values to children of the selected node, you must use the Extended Data Editor.
Extended Data Editor
Use the Extended Data Editor to modify extended data for multiple CUs and to propagate changes from one node to the nodes beneath it. It will be available only if the selected node (CU, WL, design, WR) has been configured properly (see Configuring ArcFM Solution online help).
- On the Design tab or Targets tab, right-click the node(s)
to be edited and select Extended Data Editor.
- Use the Extended Data Editor to modify your extended data fields.
- Determine how existing values will be treated. If you select "Overwrite all," any existing values (including database default values) will be replaced with your selections. If you select "Overwrite only unset values," values that have not been set by the user will be overwritten and any existing values will remain.
- Select the Propagate Values checkbox to disseminate the values to the children of the selected node. If this box is unchecked, the values will apply to the selected node(s) only. The Propagate Values field is disabled for CUs and any nodes that do not have children. This section offers a discussion on extended data propagation.
- The labels of modified fields appear in blue. Click OK to save your changes.
Extended Data Propagation
The Extended Data Editor allows you to disseminate extended data values to child nodes using the Propagate Values field. The Extended Data Editor can be accessed by right-clicking any node on the Design tab that has extended data (e.g., work request, design, work location, CU). The Extended Data Editor is disabled when the selected node has no extended data.
Using the Extended Data Editor, you can assign values to the extended data fields, then propagate those values down to all children under that node.
- Right-click a node on the Design tab and select Extended
Data Editor. As an example, we'll select the Work Location node and
propagate the extended data values to all of its children.
- In the Extended Data Editor, set values for the extended data fields you want to propagate. In this example, we'll set Labor Type to Contractor and Traffic Conditions to Medium Traffic.
- Select the Propagate Values checkbox. This checkbox is
disabled when the node has no children. It is always disabled on CU
nodes.
- The When Writing Values field allows you to determine how
the values are propagated. Values are propagated only when the field
names match. For example, a value in the Labor Type field is propagated
only to another Labor Type field on another node. If Designer encounters
an extended data field called Labour Type on another node while propagating,
the value in the Labor Type field will NOT be propagated to the Labour
Type field. The field names must match.

Overwrite All: This option overwrites all existing values in the tree. As mentioned above, the field names must match in order for propagation to occur.

Overwrite Only Unset Values: This option propagates values only to extended data fields that have no existing values. Values that have already been set will not be overwritten during propagation.
