Copy Card Favorites and Update Attributes

After creating a favorite, you can copy it and then update attributes. This is a handy time-saver, as many attributes among Ports and Cards are the same. For example, Type, Position, Pigtail Color, Width, Height, etc. are the same attributes (or at least patterns of attributes) from Card to Card. After creating the copy, you adjust the various Card and Port numbers that are unique to the installation. Creating the Cards does take a good amount of time and attention to detail; however, once created, they can be quickly assembled to create Panels through a drag and drop method.
IMPORTANT: Always verify attributes prior to copying the favorite. That way you do not create copies that contain an error.
  1. If necessary, re-open the Card favorite from the previous topic.
    1. In ArcMap, apply a Stored Display that includes your fiber features.
    2. Start Editing.
    3. In the Table of Contents, click the Features pane.
    4. Navigate to the folder that will contain your Card favorite.
    5. Right-click your Card favorite and choose Edit Favorite.
  2. In the lower, left-hand corner of the Edit Favorite dialog, click Create Copy.

  3. Because in this example the Panel will have four Cards, click Create Copy two more times. There are now four identical cards in the Table of Contents.

  4. Click OK to close the Edit Favorite dialog.
  5. In the Table of Contents, right-click the second Card and choose Edit Favorite.

  6. Update the attributes to distinguish this second Card from the first Card:
    1. Change the Description to “Card 02, 24 Ports, Ports 025–048”
    2. Change the Name to Card 02
    3. Change the Position to 2
    4. Leave the other attributes unchanged.

    5. Click Apply.
  7. Expand the relationships until you see all the back ports.

  8. Click once on BackPort001 so it is highlighted in blue.
  9. Update the attributes to distinguish this back port from the original, copied back port:
    1. Change the Description to BackPort025
    2. Change the Num to 25
    3. Change the Name to 25
    4. Leave the other attributes unchanged.

    5. Click Apply.
IMPORTANT: If you were wondering if you had to change Port Position, you do not. Even though this is port 25, it is still in the first position on Card 2.
  10. Continue this procedure for all remaining back ports.
    1. Keep incrementing the Description, Num, and Name by 1.
    2. Click Apply each time you finish populating fields for a port.
    3. Save often.
  11. After completing all ports (and saving!), perform a final click through to verify attributes.

  12. Repeat this procedure for all front ports.
    1. Increment the Description, Num, and Name by 1.
    2. Click Apply each time you finish populating fields for a port.
    3. Save often.
  13. After completing all ports, perform a final click through to verify attributes.
  14. Save the Card favorite.
  15. In the Table of Contents, right-click the third Card and choose Edit Favorite.

  16. Update the attributes to distinguish this third Card from the first Card:
    1. Change the Description to “Card 03, 24 Ports, Ports 049–072”
    2. Change the Name to Card 03
    3. Change the Position to 3

    5. Click Apply.
  17. Repeat the procedures to update the back ports and front ports to reflect the proper Description, Num, and Name for all.
  18. Repeat the procedures to update the fourth and final Card.
  19. Save the Card favorites.
