Test the Patch Location Favorite

The best way to view and verify your new favorite is to sketch one on the map. It is recommended to do this in a test or dev environment, or perform the edits in a version/session that can be discarded. You do not have to save the edits to test the favorite.
  1. If necessary, prepare your workspace to sketch the new Patch Location favorite.
    1. In ArcMap, apply a Stored Display that includes your fiber features.
    2. Create a Session/Version or Start Editing if in a dev or test environment.
    3. In the Table of Contents, click the Features pane.
    4. Navigate to the folder that contains the Patch Location favorite.
  2. Open the ArcFM Attribute Editor and position it in the interface as you wish.
  3. In the Table of Contents > Features pane, click the Patch Location favorite once. This sends the favorite to the Targets tab on the ArcFM Attribute Editor.

  4. Much like you would with any feature, populate the fields (for example, Name, Description, Owner, etc.) with hypothetical attributes

  5. In the Targets tab, expand the favorite to view its relationships.

    TIP: Here, you have the opportunity to add more attributes to the various components such as manufacturer, model number, serial number, etc.
  6. After adding some hypothetical attributes, click once on the favorite in the Targets tab to highlight it in blue.
  7. Sketch a Patch Location on the map.
  8. In the list of fiber favorites, choose a Fiber Optic Cable (any count will suffice).
  9. Sketch a cable on the map making sure to snap into the new Patch Location.

  10. On the Fiber Manager toolbar, click the Connection Manager tool.
  11. Click on the new Patch Location.
  12. In Connection Manager, use the drop down to view the Panels associated with the Patch Location.

  13. Using Connection Manager, create a few connections of various fibers to various ports, then click OK.
    TIP: This is in preparation to run a Patch Panel Connection Report, which is more interesting when fibers are actually connected to ports. For testing purposes, the easiest way to do this is to have the fiber cable on one side and the back ports on the other side of Connection Manager, then simply click the Auto Connect button.
  14. On the Fiber Manager toolbar, click the Patch Panel Connection Report tool.
  15. In the map, click on the Patch Location.
  16. In the Select Report Item dialog, ensure the entire Patch Location is highlighted in blue, then click Select.

  17. After the report opens in a browser, click Allow blocked content.
  18. Hover your mouse over various back ports to view the fiber connections. Also, scroll up and down to view the construction/layout of your favorite.

  19. When satisfied, close the report.
  20. In the map, close your Session/Version or Stop Editing. You do not need to save your changes.
