Create the First Circuit Schematic Diagram
Once a circuit schematic dataset exists, a specific user must use ArcMap to generate the first circuit schematic diagram. This user must not only be the owner of the circuit schematic dataset, but also have DBA permissions on the database. This is essential because only users with DBA permissions can automatically create the necessary objects and features in the schematic dataset. Only afterward can any user with Add, Delete, or Modify permissions generate circuit schematic diagrams in ArcMap.
When generating the first circuit schematic, be sure to create one that contains at least one of each feature class and related object that users will include in their circuit schematics. If these objects do not exist when a non-DBA user attempts to create a circuit schematic, schematic generation will fail.
In order to create a circuit schematic, you need a circuit first. If you do not have a circuit at this point, you can create one just for the purposes of establishing the schematic template. Then, you can delete the circuit. For more information about creating circuits view the Fiber Manager using guide.
- In ArcMap, apply a Fiber Manager Stored Display.
- Under Customize > Extensions, ensure the Schematics extension is checked, then click Close.
- If necessary, add the Schematic toolbar to the ArcMap interface.
-
On the Schematic toolbar, click the Generate New Schematic
Diagram
button to open the New Schematic Diagram dialog.
-
In the New Schematic Diagram dialog, set the following
properties:
- Schematic Dataset or Folder: Choose CircuitSchematics10 residing in your geodatabase.
- Schematic Diagram Template: Choose FiberCircuitDiagram
- For Output Data Frame: Choose Create New Data Frame
- For Schematic Diagram Name: Type a name, using the Circuit name, for example
- Click OK.
- In the Circuit Export dialog, choose one or more circuits from the list. You can use the Shift and Ctrl keys to choose multiple circuits. Then, click Export.
- The schematic opens in a new data frame with basic symbology. In the next topic, you update the symbology and then export it into the schematic template.
