Sketch New Fiber Facilities

When you sketch new fiber facilities that include strand-to-strand or strand-to-port connections, such as cables, splices, and patch locations, we recommend a workflow that uses:

  1. Fiber Builder to sketch the new facilities on the map. While sketching, ensure you are snapping fiber facilities together in order to establish Utility Network connectivity.

  2. Fiber Connections to connect the internal fiber strands and ports within the fiber facilities.

  3. Fiber Tracing to verify the connection is traced to the correct location.

The following topics use a standard editing workflow to install new fiber service. You can have variations of this process and separate requirements, but the core editing procedures are the same. For fiber facilities such as slack loops and transition points, where all fiber connections are assumed to be continuous, the Fiber Connections tool is not needed.
