Sketch a Patch Location
In this example, the new fiber cable terminates at a customer patch location.
When you sketch a patch location, device, splice case, or splitter in the middle of the cable:
-
The cable fibers are spliced together in a continuous method, color-to-color, without a tray assignment.
-
The fibers are not connected to any ports initially.
-
Use Fiber Connections to connect fibers to ports.
Fiber Manager XI sketch process:
-
The selected cable is split into two separate cables.
-
The application copies all the non-length attribute information to both cables.
Use the Attributes pane to update other cable attributes, such as name, ownership, or location.
-
The application uses the GIS Length + Slack Loop Length method to re-calculate the length of both cables. You can use the Attribute pane to update the cable length information with crew-noted lengths.
If the transition point has a point length that represents the cable going up a riser, that length is added to each newly-split cable length to calculate the total cable length.
-
The application creates a continuous connection, color to color, between the two sides of the newly-split cable.
To sketch a new patch location, follow these steps:
-
Open a session.
-
On the Main menu > Fiber tab, open Fiber Builder.
-
On the left-hand side, under Favorites, locate the patch location you require.
NOTE: If you not see a patch location favorite, you can create one. See Create and Manage Fiber Favorites for more information. -
Right-click the patch location favorite and choose Create new feature.
IMPORTANT: If you did not save earlier edits, you may receive a “Save Pending Edits” message. When you sketch a new fiber facility, the application automatically saves the current work. If you need to edit a previous sketch, click Cancel and perform your edits. Then, restart this workflow. If you are ready to sketch, click OK. -
In the map, bring your patch location near the end of the fiber cable and make sure it is set to snap to the end of the cable. See Turn Snapping On or Off for more information.
-
Click once to sketch the patch location at the end of the cable.
-
With the patch location selected on the Main Tool Ribbon > Edit tab > Selection tool group, click Attributes.
-
In the window that opens, update the attributes for the patch location, click Apply, and save your session.
Enable Auto Apply if you want the application to automatically apply your attribute changes as you make them. This removes the Apply button because every attribute edit is automatically applied.
