Implied Connections

A handful of fiber objects have implied or inherent connections. The Implied Connections tab lets you determine which fiber objects are inherently connected.

Example: A FrontPort is inherently connected to BackPort and a SplitIn is inherently connected to a SplitOut.

IMPORTANT: Fiber objects can participate in only one implied connection. If you imported the Fiber Manager XI data model, these implied connections are made for you.

To create an implied connection:

  1. Click Add New.

  2. From each menu, select the Source Object and the Destination Object. We recommend a consistent pattern from side to side:

    • Source: Front, In, or Common Ports

    • Destination: Back, Out, or Split Ports

  3. Select the Source Alignment Field that contains the data for the Source Object.

  4. Select the Destination Alignment Field that contains the data for the Destination Object.

    • For FrontPort and BackPort, both can be the field that contains their port numbers. This is because the application always assumes that the front and back ports are always the same number. Example: FrontPort 1 is connected to BackPort1. This lets you use the same field for the individual port numbers and the implied connection port numbers.

    • For splitter situations, the Destination Alignment Field is the ImpliedAlignment field. This is because with splitters, the ports are not a one-to-one relationship. For example, with a 1 x 4 splitter, all four Destination Objects are connected to the same port number in the Source Object.

    • The Destination Foreign Key Field is the field that contains the GUID of the Source Object. This is the ImpliedConnectionSourceGuid field.

  5. Click Save.
