Withdrawable Device Status

Withdrawable Device Handling Conditions

Connection or disconnection of the withdrawable device requires insertion of the racking handle. When interlocks, padlocks, or an open door lock are in place, the racking handle cannot be inserted.

  • Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices. See NFPA 70E or CSA Z462 or local equivalent.
  • This equipment must only be installed and serviced by qualified electrical personnel.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.

Withdrawable Device Positions

The indicator located on the front of the chassis locally signals the position of the device in the chassis.

Device position Connector position and position indicator Device status

Connected position

  • Can be operated

  • Ready for service

Test position

  • Can be operated

  • Can have operation and control systems tested

Disconnected position

  • Can be operated

  • Can be removed from chassis

Withdrawable Device Position Contacts

The position of the device in the chassis is indicated remotely by the position of the following position contacts:

  • CE: connected position

  • CT: test position

  • CD: disconnected position. The device is in the disconnected position when the minimum isolation distance between the main contacts and the auxiliary contacts is reached.

The state of the position contacts changes according to the device position during racking-in and racking-out operations, as shown in the following diagram.

  1. Device in connected position

  2. Separation of the main contacts

  3. Device in test position

  4. Separation of the auxiliary contacts

  5. Device in disconnected position

Position contact is open.

Position contact is closed.
