Water System

Tracing queries may be crucial to a utility’s procedures in routine maintenance or an emergency. These configuration details explicitly link the decisions made by the administrator with what the user can expect to happen when traces are performed.

The purpose of this trace is to find a connected system whose boundary is a water source or other device. Possible uses of this ability include asset management, maintenance information, and inventory. The user can designate water sources. By default, only the Water Source box is checked in the Analysis Options dialog.

For the Water Source option, the solver looks for junctions with Bit 21 (Network Source) set. For the Other Devices option, the solver looks only for Bit 20 (Regulator) set.

Water System Bit Interpretations

  • Bit 18 - Specifies if the device is a water system boundary. This bit setting depends on the existence of the following field model names: NORMALPOSITION and WATERSYSTEMSTATUS. 

    • If NORMALPOSITION exists, this field value will be used to set the bit. A value of 1 means that it is not a boundary. A value of 0 that it is a boundary.

    • If NORMALPOSITION does not exist, the WATERSYSTEMSTATUS field value will be used to set the bit. A value of 1 means it that it is a boundary. A value of 0 means that it is not a boundary. 

  • Bit 21 - This bit specifies if a device is a water source and depends on the existence of the class model name NETWORKSOURCE; 1 means that it is, 0 that it is not.

  • Bit 20 - This bit specifies if a device is a regulator and depends on the existence of the class model name REGULATOR; 1 means that it is, 0 that it is not.

  • Bit 25 - This trace does not traverse any edges for which bit 25 is set.
