Catalog Import/Export

In Solution Center, you can view and update all the attributes for the Project Files, Groupings, and Components in your catalog. But, you do so in an individual manner. In other words, you can view or update one Project File at a time, one Grouping at a time, or one Component at a time.

But, there are many situations where you need to view or update catalog entries in bulk. For example:

  • You have many of the same edits to make across component types.

  • You simply need a flat table of all catalog entries.

  • You need to export a catalog from one tenant into another tenant.

  • You need a way to import equipment from a different application into DHFC.

For all of these needs, the Catalog Import/Export is the answer.

The Catalog Import/Export tab allows you to export your catalog to Excel. Once exported, you can view the records in a flat table. Then, you can take it a step further and modify attributes within Excel. This is particularly handy if you many of the same updates to make across component types. Then, you can import the table back into the catalog to update, replace, or delete catalog entries in bulk. This is much faster than editing these catalog entries individually.

IMPORTANT: Edit the Excel spreadsheet at your own risk.
  • Editing the catalog attributes outside of Solution Center has the advantage of speed, but it also carries the risk of data corruption.

  • Do not change component types, do not enter frequencies outside of allowable ranges, and do not delete IDs.

    • If you were editing the component individually within Solution Center, these kinds of edits would be flagged upon Validate (or prevented altogether). But, the bulk import does not perform the same validation. So, in the same sense, do not treat Excel as a way to bypass the validation efforts of Solution Center, and do not make edits that would normally be prevented.

  • Do not change the structure of the exported Excel template. For example, do not alter the first row, the header row, or the columns.
