Layout Settings

When you launch the application, the map uses a defined layout scale for showing the linear component symbols, point component symbols, and labels. The scales dictate the relative size of labels and symbols.

On the Backstage of the application, these layout scales are found under Settings:

Layout Scale

The Layout Scale determines how large the symbols and labels appear on the map. It does not change the proportions of the underlying basemap, only the components, structures, and their labels.

The default scale of 4 looks like the following image:

While, a Layout Scale of 8 looks like the following image:

Building Layout Scale

The Building Layout Scale determines how large the symbols and labels appear while working inside an MDU.

The default scale of .125 looks like the following image:

While, a scale of .375 looks like the following image:

Guide Offset

When placing cables along stranding, the cables are positioned at an offset so that you may see both cable and strand. The Guide Offset determines how far to reposition the cables.

For example, the following image shows the default Guide Offset of 1.5244.

While, an offset of 3 looks like the following image:

TIP: Adjusting the offset is an important consideration if you adjust the Layout or Building Layout Scales. As seen in some of the images above, if you adjust a scale without also adjusting the offset, the labels could overlap.

Save, Reload, and Reset

To adjust the Settings, use the following buttons:

  • Save: After changing a scale or offset, click Save. If you do not click Save, your changes do not persist.

  • Reload: After changing a scale or offset, you need to close and re-open the application for the changes to take effect. The Reload button mimics this restart for the application without you having to actually close and re-open the application. It only functions if no work has been done in the current session. If you change the settings mid-project, then you need to close and re-open the application for the changes to take effect.

IMPORTANT: Changing the Guide Offset only affects subsequent placements. It does not move existing cables to the new offset. Thus, ensure you adjust the offset prior to placing components.

  • Reset: This button restores the settings back to their defaults. Click Save after clicking Reset to make the defaults persist.
