Install the DHFC Client Application

This topic discusses how to install the DHFC client application. The client application itself is lightweight, and after its installation, it has only a few configuration options, which are covered in Layout Settings.

For more information about the MSIX installer technology, see the myArcFM article Designer HFC MSIX Migration.

IMPORTANT:
  • The following steps are targeted toward administrators (those with a DHFC Admin role). Only DHFC Admins have access to the Rollout plugin.

  • For your end users, you need to facilitate the installation of the application (and likely facilitate their first login using the authentication method you established earlier in Configure Authentication).

  • For installation, you have two choices: install via a download URL or install via a deployment script. Steps for both options are below in this topic.

    • If you plan on using the download URL, you need to first download and install Microsoft’s App Installer.

    • If you are unable to access the Microsoft Store due to your company’s security policies, that means you are unable to download App Installer, and thus, unable to use the download URL installation. In this scenario, you install using the deployment script.

  • This topic contains the installation steps, but for more information about the Rollout plugin, the installer technology, and pinning to versions, see the next topic Rollout Plugin and DHFC Installer.

  • If installing on Windows Server, see the myArcFM article Installing the DHFC Client on Windows Server for more information.

Install with the Download Link

To download and install the DHFC client application, follow these steps:

  1. As stated above, first download and install Microsoft’s App Installer.

  2. In Solution Center > Rollout, choose the application version you want to install.

    • You can choose “Use Latest Version.”

    • You can choose a specific version, and optionally, specify a patch version.

IMPORTANT: Before choosing an application version, read more about the version policies in the topic Rollout Plugin and the DHFC Installer.

  3. Click the Copy Download Link button. This copies a download URL to your clipboard.

IMPORTANT: Is your Copy Download Link button disabled? The most likely reason is that you have changed the version in the drop-down, but you have not yet clicked Save at the bottom of the interface. If you want to download an older version, first choose it in the drop-down, click Save, then click Copy Download Link.
  4. Paste the copied URL into a web browser to download the installer.

  5. Once downloaded, execute the installer.

  6. After the application is installed, the login splash screen appears. To login, use the authentication method you established earlier in Configure Authentication.

Install with a Deployment Script

To install using a deployment script, follow these steps:

  2. Click Create Deployment Script.

  3. Type an intuitive Name for the script. Because you ultimately run this as a script, we recommend a simple name with no spaces or special characters (for example, dhfcscript).

  4. Save the script in an accessible location.

  5. If necessary, copy and paste the script onto the client machine where you are installing the application. Copy and paste into an accessible location.

  6. Run Windows PowerShell as an administrator.

  7. In PowerShell, navigate to the directory where the script is located. For example, if the folder containing the script was called “deploymentscript” and it was on the C:\ drive, you could use the “cd” command to “change directory.”

  8. To run the script, type .\ followed by the script name, then press Enter. For example, if the script name was “dhfcscript” then the command would look like the following image:

IMPORTANT: If you receive an error that the script, “cannot be loaded because running scripts is disabled on this system,” see the Microsoft help topic about_Execution_Polies and speak with your company’s IT department for assistance.

Internet Explorer Enhanced Security

If you have Enhanced Security enabled on Internet Explorer, the Auth0 URLs might be blocked the first time you launch the application. This prevents the application from opening.

To circumvent this dialog, you need to add the URLs to the Trusted sites zone. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. In the “content blocked” dialog (see image above), take note of the URL that was blocked (the URL in the image above is not an actual product URL and is just an example).

  2. Click the Tools menu > Internet Options.

  3. Click the Security tab.

  4. Click Trusted Sites.

  5. Click the Sites button.

  6. In the Trusted Sites dialog, add the URL that was blocked.

After adding the URL to the Trusted sites, try to launch the application again. The same “blocked content” dialog - but with a different URL - might appear. Repeat the steps above until all the Auth0 URLs have been added to the Trusted sites. This might take several iterations through the steps above.
