Add Feature Layers to the Map

Each layer and table in your database has a name, alias, and numerical identifier. These values let the Fiber Manager XI tools, Solution Center, and ArcGIS Server interact with the GIS data.

IMPORTANT: Do not change any layer or table names from the catalog pane in ArcGIS Pro. Differences between the GIS data and the Fiber Manager XI configuration causes errors in Solution Center. See Export the ArcFM Fiber Manager XI Configuration for information on how to change feature layer names.

To add layers to the map.

  1. From the Catalog pane, select all the objects from your database list, right click the selection and select Add To Current Map. You can add the utility network, the relationships, and the tables in one action.

For more information about adding layers to your map, see the Esri topic, Add layers to a map or scene.

  2. After the map updates, save your project.

  3. From the Contents pane, right click the map name and select Properties.

  4. Enter a name for the map. This map name is used later when you name the feature service for publishing.

  5. Enable the option for Allow assignment of unique numeric IDs for sharing web layers and click OK.

After the database objects are added to the map, you can update layer properties. The Communications Line is the layer with the fiber cables in it. Many cables have separate strands that look the same when looking at the fiber connections. In ArcGIS Pro, you can change the Display field for the Communications Line layer so the strands use the Cable Name in the display for Fiber connections. See View Fiber Connections for more information.

IMPORTANT: If this change is made after a map is published, it will need to be republished to reflect the changes.
