Initial Considerations

  1. Do you have ArcGIS Server? It’s required to host map content for ArcFM Mobile. For requirements, refer to the ArcGIS installation guide. For some helpful advice, read about our installation experience.
  2. Do you have Portal for ArcGIS? It’s required for authentication to ArcFM Mobile. For requirements, refer to the ArcGIS installation guide. For some helpful advice, read about our installation experience.
  3. Supported version information is available in myArcFM on the ArcFM Mobile product page.
  4. Do you have ArcGIS Desktop? It is required on at least one desktop machine to publish map content to ArcGIS Server. Access Esri’s quick start guide to see all the components that you need, what’s included in the install, and the additional extensions that need licensed.
  5. Do you have ArcFM Desktop? It is required on at least one desktop machine to enable network tracing functionality. See Tracing for more information.
  6. Do you have separate servers for ArcGIS Server and ArcFM Mobile services? We recommend hosting them on two separate machines.
  7. What types of devices do your users have? For device requirements, refer to the supported version information in myArcFM on the ArcFM Mobile product page.
  8. Which method are you going to use to install the ArcFM Mobile client? A single user install is intended for one-user devices, while multi-user installs are intended for devices that may be used by multiple users, each having their own login. See Client Considerations for more information.
  9. Do you have ArcFM Solution Center installed? It is required for configuring operational maps, basemaps, tile packages, offline packages, markups, users, and API keys.
  10. Does your geodatabase use Global IDs for identifiers? They are required and should be added at the dataset level. See Add Global IDs for more information. However, if your relationships are currently maintained via a user-managed field rather than an Esri-managed field, there is no need to migrate your relationship classes to use Global IDs.
  11. Do your users need to use network tracing functionality? If so, offline configuration is required. Refer to Offline Considerations.
  12. Do your users need to work in areas of partial or no connectivity? If so, offline configuration is required. Refer to Offline Considerations.
  13. Do your users need to use markups for map corrections or for generating other feedback that needs provided back to your organization? If so, markup configuration is required. Refer to Markup Considerations.
