Configure Operational Maps

Operational maps contain the GIS features with which users interact in ArcFM Mobile. Operational maps must be dynamic map services and need to be visible to mobile devices through a virtual private network (VPN) or some other means. Feature services are required by ArcFM Mobile for both online and offline viewing/querying because the feature service exposes more querying capabilities. To alleviate potential heavy server processing load and network traffic, the app utilizes the map service to retrieve information for panning and zooming functions.

The following Esri links provide some useful information:

Before creating an operational map in ArcMap, global IDs need to be added to use your feature service locally in a client application and are required even for one-way replication.

IMPORTANT: Your published operational map broadcasts its native map units, i.e. meters or feet. When a user loads an operational map, ArcFM Mobile checks that map's spatial reference and switches the map unit used for the measure tool. When preparing operational maps, it’s important to use a spatial reference that’s appropriate for the system of units most commonly used in your region.
