Our Experience - Portal for ArcGIS Install

Refer to Esri’s documentation for more extensive details on a Portal for ArcGIS installation. For a 10.6 .1 installation we offer the following for consideration:
  1. Verify 10.6.1 system requirements.
  2. Obtain an authorization file from Esri.
  3. Be aware of the ports used by Portal for ArcGIS in case you need to adjust your firewall settings.
  4. Install Portal for ArcGIS according to Esri’s recommendations.
    1. Click Next past the Welcome window and accept the Master Agreement.
    2. Click Next twice to accept the default install locations, then provide an account name and password, and click Next.

    3. We did not choose to export a configuration file. Click Next, then click Install.
    4. Once the install finishes, the Software Authorization Wizard launches. Click Next through the prompts and fill out this Authorization Information form and the one following, then click Next.

    5. Now you need to authorize the software, which is why you obtained the authorization file in step 2 above. You need at least one Level 2 license to create your Portal for ArcGIS. Esri provides more information about levels, roles, and privileges if you want to peruse it. Click Next.

    6. After you click Finish, your Portal for ArcGIS website opens and prompts you to create a new portal or join an existing one. We chose to create a new one.

    7. Once you fill out the initial administrator account information, click Create.
    8. Click OK to be taken to the Web Adaptor install.

ArcGIS Web Adaptor Install

The ArcGIS Web Adaptor allows you to integrate Portal for ArcGIS with your organization's existing web server. By including a web server in your site, you gain the ability to host web applications that use your GIS services. You cannot deploy Portal for ArcGIS in your organization without the Web Adaptor.
  1. For requirements, refer to Esri’s 10.6 documentation.
  2. Similar to the Server Web Adaptor install, this installation checks for the existence of certain IIS components. You can either allow the installation to automatically enable the required components, or you can manually enable the components.
  3. Just like you did with Server Web Adaptor, enable HTTPS on your web server.
  4. Browse to the location of the downloaded setup files and double-click Setup.exe if the setup program doesn’t start automatically.
  5. Accept the master agreement and click Next.
  6. Choose a website running on port 80 for the web adaptor. Click Next.

  7. Give your web adaptor a name and click Next.

  8. Click Finish and your Portal website opens in a browser. Select Portal for ArcGIS and click Next.

  9. Provide the Portal URL and administrator account information, and click Configure.
  10. Install is complete when you see configuration information in the green box.
