GPS/NMEA Configuration

By default, ArcFM Mobile obtains a device’s position from the onboard GPS through Location Services. However, it can also support external receivers using the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) data specification via a serial, TCP, or UDP connection. NMEA configuration occurs in the Solution Center and generally applies to your entire organization. Individual devices, however, can use custom configurations as necessary. To configure tenant-level NMEA settings for ArcFM Mobile, see GPS/NMEA Configuration in the ArcFM Solution Center and ArcFM Mobile – Configuration Guide.

The process to configure an external NMEA receiver for a single device depends on the device’s operating system.

Windows

To configure ArcFM Mobile NMEA settings on a Windows device, see Configure GPS/NMEA in the ArcFM for Windows — Using Guide.

iPad

An iPad can receive position information from an external NMEA receiver as long as that receiver is documented as supporting iPad and you have connected the receiver to the iPad (typically by Bluetooth).

Android

An Android device can receive position information from an external NMEA receiver if you download and install a Bluetooth connector application from the Google Play store. In the settings for that app, toggle on GPS Mock Location. Then, in Developer Tools, locate the Select Mock Location App under the Location section, where you can select your app of choice.

TIP: To enable Developer Tools on Android devices, open Settings and tap System. Tap Developer options and toggle the On setting. For Samsung devices, refer to their article for turning on the Developer Options menu.
