GPS Considerations

  1. Is GPS position information available to your Windows devices? ArcFM Mobile, by default, is configured to use a device’s onboard GPS through Location Services.  However, ArcFM Mobile for Windows can be configured to use an external National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) receiver directly. Refer to GPS/NMEA Configuration for more details.
  2. Is GPS position information available to your iPads? An iPad can receive position information from onboard GPS if the iPad has wifi + cellular capability. An iPad can also receive position information from an external NMEA receiver. Refer to GPS/NMEA Configuration.
  3. Is GPS position information available to your Windows devices through Location Services? ArcFM Mobile does not provide turn-by-turn navigation, but instead integrates with third party navigation apps for this capability. On Windows devices many of these apps, including Windows Maps and Google Maps, get GPS position information only from Windows Location Services. Refer to GPS for External Apps for more details.
