Create a Markup Dataset

To create a dataset in your database, refer to Esri’s topic for Creating a feature dataset.

IMPORTANT: Do not register this new dataset as versioned. You must connect to this dataset as a user who has privileges to copy/paste into the SDE datababase and dataset.

If you used the ArcFM Markup Sample Data on myArcFM to create an initial Generic Markup dataset, you can skip the steps that follow this one if you would like to continue using the same dataset. Markups are neither geometric network nor utility network features.

TIP: To use ArcFM markup tools, including the provided sample data, you must be able to create a dataset with a storage type of ST_GEOMETRY or SDO_GEOMETRY for Oracle databases or GEOMETRY for SQL Server databases. ArcFM Markup tools require a non-versioned, archive-enabled dataset. Esri does not support non-versioned, archive-enabled datasets on other storage types such as SDELOB or SDEBINARY. If your geodatabase uses either SDELOB or SDEBINARY, you need to enable a new configuration keyword on your geodatabase, or you need to migrate your storage type. For more information about configuration keywords, refer to Esri’s Configuration Keywords for Enterprise Geodatabases article.
