Operational Maps in ArcGIS Pro

For users to take their operational data offline, you need to create runtime databases (replicas) on a mobile device from sync-enabled feature services via ArcGIS Server. You should have already created an operational map during online viewer configuration, but if you need to create additional operational maps, refer to Configure Operational Maps for further details. Feature services for offline operation have additional requirements. Refer to Esri’s Prepare data for offline use to establish an awareness of the data requirements for sync capability on feature services.

Offline Data Preparation

Each feature class to be published must contain a global ID field. The global IDs you add to the datasets you take offline cannot be based on a custom field—they must explicitly use the global ID field created by ArcGIS. To add global IDs to your data, use the Add Global IDs geoprocessing tool or the Add Global ID command on the feature class, feature dataset, and table context menus in the Catalog tree.

The following fields must be included in the feature service, and the columns cannot be hidden in any of the feature classes to be published:

  • Fields that have subtypes

  • Primary and foreign key fields for the relationship class or attachments

  • Editor tracking fields (if editor tracking is enabled on the dataset)

The login account specified in the database connection used to access the data must be granted the privileges on the data in the geodatabase that allows them to perform the editing operations configured for the feature service.

Web Layer Sharing

Web feature layers are appropriate for visualizing data on top of a basemap and can be used as inputs for analysis and in sync-based workflows. Having already published a web layer for online viewing, you need to share this web layer with sync enabled to allow users to view it offline.

  1. From the Share menu in ArcGIS Pro, select Web Layer > Publish Web Layer to launch the Share As Web Layer dialog.

  2. In the Share As Web Layer dialog, ensure that the Feature checkbox under the General tab is ticked.

  3. Next, select the Configuration tab and configure the Feature layer properties by clicking the corresponding pencil icon.

  4. In the Feature Properties sub-dialog, disable editing and ensure the Enable Sync checkbox is ticked.

For more information, refer to Esri’s guidance on how to Share a web feature layer and Prepare data for use in offline feature services.
