Plan for Offline Needs

To optimize ArcFM Mobile's offline capabilities, consider your users' offline needs, specifically who needs to access data and what types of data they need. Consider your different types of crews: linemen, inspectors, damage assessors, etc. Then consider your regions or service areas. When working offline, do your crews need to access data for the entire service territory? Can you break it up into smaller chunks of data that will be particular to just the regions in which the crews are working? Finally, consider the data itself. What data does each group of users need to see: electric, gas, water, etc? Will they need to view data such as parcels or street centerlines?

Each organization is unique, and you should break up your data in the way that makes the most sense for your users. Ultimately, you'll end up with operational map replicas and basemap tile packages from which you'll create offline packages that can then be downloaded to the Mobile app.

Keeping this in case I get asked to commission it again. JonF asked for this to be moved to sync service. ASh

Windows only: If you are using the option for enterprise deployments, as described in Client Considerations, ArcFM Mobile stores offline content in the ProgramData folder. By default, Windows locks down this folder in such a way that anyone can write to it, but no one besides the creator can write to the files in the folder. To overcome this, you need to grant the Users group at minimum Modify permission to the Schneider_Electric folder on each Windows laptop.

This can be accomplished with AD group policy or by running the following command on a user’s laptop:

icacls "%PROGRAMDATA%\Schneider_Electric\ArcFMMobile" /grant Users:(OI)(CI)M

IMPORTANT: If that step isn’t followed, only the original user who downloaded map packages can delete them or download additional packages.

iPad only: Since an iPad supports only one user, replicas are always stored in a location accessible by that user.
