Logs for the Hosted Edge

Administrators often use the on-site Edge Service log files to diagnose problems. The same is true for the Hosted Edge, but because it is hosted, you do not have direct access to the logs. Instead, you can find diagnostic logs in Solution Center > Feeder Services > Logs.

  • The Logs tab provides a time-filtered view of the Hosted Edge logs.

    • There is a slight delay in messages appearing in the Logs tab (typically less than 10 minutes). The timestamps, though, are always accurate and reflect the true time of the event.

  • The Hosted Edge logs provide a capability that is not available in the on-site logs:

    • With the logs integrated into Solution Center, you can view logs relevant to a specific Geodatabase Region (GRR). On the Mapping tab > Geodatabase Regions subtab, for each GRR there is a “View Logs” button that links you to the logs filtered for that GRR.

Running Logs

Before you click Run to generate the log, consider adding filters to fine tune the result:

Date and Time Filter

Level of Severity

You choose the minimum severity level you want to see. In other words, Verbose shows all messages, Information shows all except Verbose, Warning shows Warnings and Errors, and because Error is the most severe, it only shows Errors.

Workflow Session ID

This is a filter for the subnetwork name. If using the View Logs button on the Geodatabase Regions subtab, the application automatically filters to the chosen subnetwork.

Exclude Service Bus Errors

These can be voluminous. Thus, excluding them might make it easier to digest the remaining log.

After you click Run to generate the log, there are other tools to assist you in investigating the contents:

  • Find (Ctrl + F): This lets you search for words within the log. If there are multiple pages, it searches the entire log, not just the page you are currently viewing.

  • Jump to Top/Jump to Bottom: These are quick ways to move to the top or bottom of the current page of the log.

  • Auto-Scroll to End: This is a toggle (on or off). If toggled on, after you run a report, it brings you immediately to the end of the log (if there are multiple pages, it brings you to the end of the last page).

TIP: Are you not finding something you know is in the report? Perhaps you forgot this toggle was on, and you are currently viewing the last page.

  • Copy and Paste: The log is text, so you can highlight and copy in order to paste into another application.
