Configure the Hosted Edge Service

Feeder Services requires a Hosted Edge Service implementation.

When you filled out the Request a Tenant form, your Schneider Electric implementation team should have enabled Hosted Edge for your tenant. If you are unsure, contact arcfmreadiness@schneider-electric.com to verify the Hosted Edge Service was enabled for your tenant.

The benefits of the Hosted Edge Service are the same as Schneider Electric’s other hosted services:

  • Reduced cost of ownership since Schneider Electric maintains the Hosted Edge.

  • You do not need to allocate hardware, maintain the Operating System (security patches), install or upgrade the Edge Service.

  • This service changes at every release as it contains important business logic.

Configuration

  • Requires ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 or later.

  • Requires ArcGIS Server 10.9.1 or later.

  • The Hosted Edge is configured in Solution Center > Designer > Mapping.

  • The Edge Service communicates with the Designer XI Storage Service.

  • The Edge Service communicates with the ArcGIS Server/Portal map and feature services.

  • The target feature service must be published from ArcGIS Pro, not from ArcMap.

The Hosted Edge accesses the map and feature services using the M2M (machine-to-machine) credential stored with the Operational Map.

The M2M credential must be provided for any map or feature service the Edge Service needs to access. This may include the following services:

  • The electric and/or gas network map.

  • The electric and/or gas “push” map.

  • The electric and/or gas Geodatabase Region (GRR) map.

NOTE: If the credentials change, or are invalid, the service can be restarted from the Windows Event viewer. For Hosted Edge service connections, contact, Schneider Electric support.

Hybrid Connection Manager (HCM)

The Hosted Edge service communicates with on-prem Portal for ArcGIS/Server, PX/SDE geodatabase, and Storage Service using an Azure technology called Hybrid Connections. It uses the Azure Service Bus relay and an onsite installed Hybrid Connection Manager to allow the hosted service to access the on-site services.

HCM is usually already implemented at your site since it is often used for authentication scenarios (for example for Auth0 to communicate with Active Directory). Schneider Electric maintains a separate Azure Relay account per customer, and the connection strings for HCM need to be provided during setup.

IMPORTANT: The Hybrid Connection Manager must be installed on a machine (or VM) that can communicate with all applicable endpoints (Portal for ArcGIS/Server, PS/SDE geodatabase, DXI Storage).
