Installing the Hybrid Connection Manager

Because the Hosted Edge is in Azure and customers typically do not want to open up their internal servers to Azure, you need to download and install the Microsoft Hybrid Connection Manager on the machine that is hosting the Storage Service. When combined with configuration in our Client Configuration plugin in Solution Center, HCM will allow safe and secure communication between the Hosted Edge and the Storage Service.

The goal of this section is to establish a hybrid connection to the machine or VM that the Storage Service is running on. In short, you obtain a connection string from Client Configuration, and that establishes a connection to your server through the ArcFM Proxy Service.

  1. In Solution Center > Client Configuration, click Hybrid Connections.

  2. Click Add New to create a new connection.

  3. Enter the information in the three fields:

    • Name: a clear and concise Name for this connection. It should be something you and other administrators can recognize as it is displayed here in Hybrid Connections and within Hybrid Connection Manager.

    • Host: the host name of the Storage Service server.

    • Port: 443.

  4. Click Save.

  5. After the application processes the Save, the interface refreshes to show “Get Hybrid Connection” next to Connection String.

  6. Click Get Hybrid Connection.

  7. See the connection string address change. Click copy.

  8. From Windows, open Hybrid Connection Manager.

  9. At the bottom of the window, click Enter Manually.

  10. In the Add Hybrid Connection from Connection String dialog, paste the connection string you copied from Step 7, then click Add.

  11. After it processes, in the Hybrid Connection Manager dialog, verify you see an Azure Status of “Connected” for your new connection.

  12. Return to Solution Center and click Client Configuration > Hybrid Connections.

If necessary, along the left-hand side, find your connection and click it once to highlight in green. HCM is now listed as “Connected.”

  13. To add the Storage service host URL to Solution Center, click Feeder Services > Additional Configuration.

  14. Paste the Storage Service URL and click Save.
